Does anyone else find it amusing how many bullet molds are described as "vintage" on sites like Ebay? Apparently the non- casters must think all molds are a thing of history....LOL

Ebay started out as a good thing for casters.....it has now evolved into something that I NEVER waste my time with.

I believe that vintage means "I lost the original receipt".

Ebay started out as a good thing for casters.

Ebay is where I bought my first mould. It was a 4 cavity Saeco .38 wadcutter that I got for $22. This was around 2001-2002. I remember asking load data for it on the old Shooters.com. Quality, used moulds were cheap then. Most on there now look like they were in store in saltwater in the back of Old Uncle Jasper's bait shop.

Where else can you buy "vintage" or "classic" Lee moulds NIB for more than Lee charges?

I find some good buys every once in a while. My H&G #34 DC with handles, for example, that cost less than a new RCBS mold. There's a lot of overpriced stuff out there, and I don't know who buys it, but my rule is to not pay any more than than 2/3 of what a new one costs. That is, unless it's an obsolete mold, like a Bond mold I bought recently, and even then I got a good deal because no one apparently knew what it was. I do know this, though, nothing's cheap anymore, unless you want Lee.

...... And lets not forget the most used and most misused word on ebay is 'Rare'.

"Vintage" guarantees some sucker will pay at least twice what the mould is worth.

Last week, a used but current production, 2-cavity rifle mould sold for over $70.

A few phrased spring to mind:

"Let the buyer beware."

"Caveat emptor."

and the old standbys:

"A fool and his money are soon parted."

"There's a sucker born every minute!"

I've got two really good deals for molds lately,a .25 cal and minnie and both had handles and both unused for cheaper than a standard production mold so I'm a fan, like everything though you have to know how far to go. Pat

Sometimes ebay is the only way we in Aus can get molds.Would you pay $140 for a double cavity Lyman? So I watch ebay and our group buys.

Picked up an unused, in the box RCBS pro-melt bottom pour furnace for $200. Got my 6-cavity 32 cal Lee mold, new, unused, with handles, no box, for $40 shipped. All my molds came from eBay, but they were bought carefully from private sellers. I got the 105-gr and 150-gr SWC 6-cav for .357 for $70 shipped the pair with a set of handles. I don' t think I did too bad at that.

I love all the folks trying to sell molds for more than Lee Precision lists as MSRP. Who the heck buys them?

There's lots of stuff to laugh at. Lyman 450's for $100 and if it has the Chapman wrench it's an "extra"..
