Shot 60 g commeral HP (left over from 32acp) with 7.2 unique from my Ruger 101,into packed newpaper (dry) it penetrated about 4 in. The bullet fragmented into small pieces. Dont know the accuratcy. Might be a nice woodchuck combo . Velocity is 1800 fps in a 5.5 in barrel. The 7.2 g fills the 32 mag cast. lightly compressed load. Any thoughts?:killingpc

That sounds like a dangerous load. Even in a 327 magnum. I don't think I would go any higher than 4.7-5.0 grs of Unique if it was my gun/fingers.

That would be toasty. I'd try some AA7 or Longshot

Based on MD Smith reloading page. No high pressure signs. Probably an 85 g would shoot better

see link http://www.reloadammo.com/ use data for Fed 327. In ruger 101 hot but safe. Still not the best bullet to use. According to Handloader this month the cases of the 32 mag and 327 Federal are of equal strength

Just to confirm you have an SP101 with a 5.5" bbl?

No quoting load data I do have a Blackhawk in 327 Fed with 5.5 in barrel , but use my Ruger SP 101 to test fire 60 grainer, It has a 3 1/4 in barrel It is in 32 mag. I am sure the FPS is less than 1800 fps

I don't recall having tried any of the 60 grain HPs in the 32 Magnum. Those bullets have shot well from 32 ACPs, and showed decent expansion and penetration on jackrabbits. I can only imagine the havoc they would wreak running 80% faster!

I have thought about trying the same thing in my Ruger SP-101 in .327 Federal, but loaded up all my 60 grain bullets for my NAA Guardian. I think that the Lyman manual has a load for the .32 H & R magnum using 71 grain FMJ bullets and Unique. I will check tomorrow (too lazy to go down now). Be careful. Sounds like an adventurous load.
