Does anyone have experience shooting cast bullets with Danish Krag 8x56R? In cleaning up an old gun collection, a friend has a couple of these he wants to get rid of, and I was wondering it they were decent cast bullet guns. Thanks for any help. Ric

Do a search here Ric. I think if it can be shot, someone here has done it.

I tried that and for 8x56R danish cartridge. No luck. I signed up for the Krag forum, but replies yet. Cases could be made from 45/70 brass, it appears. Ric

I think Dutchman has some experience with this cartridge in a rolling block, you might try him.

"In short order, I had turned out a sufficient quantity of .329" bullets for test-firing the M95. In preparation for this project, I had purchased 100 cases from a dealer selling reloading supplies on GunBroker.com. The cases were reformed from Remington-Peters .45-70 brass and appeared to be of the proper dimensions."

8x58R Danish or as they refer to it in Sweden, 8x58RD.

I've started forming Graf's 8x56R brass to 8x58RD via fire forming. I really see no good reason to use .45-70 as they're also too short unless the cases are stretched which results in grossly overworked brass. I prefer the easier way though resulting in a shorter case.

Danish military issue case dated 1931 and
loaded in Sweden with a soft point bullet:

head diameter = .504"
rim diameter = .574"
rim thickness = .058"
case oal = 2.272"

8x56R for the 1895 Hungarian rifles:

head diameter = .491
rim diameter = .554
rim thickness = .055
case oal = 2.194

Norma commercial 8x58RD
headstamp = Norma 8mm m/89:

head diameter = .501"
rim diameter = .576"
rim thickness = .059"
case OAL = 2.266"

these measurements from cartridges in my collection.

Do not give any credibility to Cartridges of the World in regard to 8x58RD as the information is incorrect.
