got some advice from 44man on working up some top end loads with the lee 310.
WQWW with some lino added is the alloy.I will size .431 and lube with BAC for my 4 5/8" Ruger SBH. 21.5gr of 296 and a wwLPP. Loking forward to shooting some top end heavy weights from the SBH!!!

i'll let you guys know how they work after i get a chance to go out. Might be awhile though.....:drinks:

waco;
That particular load is the most accurate load I've shot in my scoped.44 magnum revolvers (Model 29 S&W with 8 3/8" barrel and a Ruger RedHawk with 7½" barrel). The recoil is pretty substantial in a short barreled revolver. They are a bit rough in a 4" S&W Model 629. In fact, I have decided to limit my use of this load to my Rugers. I love my Smiths and don't need to beat them up. The Rugers are definitely more rugged but I LOVE my Smiths...

They will stay on a playing card at 100 yards off a rest. That'll do me...

That is a great shooting bullet for me. My SRH loves that thing. I have used that load with great success. Dale is right, it is going to be snappy in recoil in that short barrel but should shoot well for you.

I shoot that boolit with 20.5 grains of 296 oal 1.7" in my Redhawk, the most accurate boolit I have found. I am using air cooled # 2 alloy.

Short barrels are a bugger and is why I will never part with my 10" SBH. My main use for any revolver is deer hunting so I like 7-1/2" to 10" with a sling and in a shoulder holster.
I love the feel of shorter guns and they are great in a hip holster but mine are primary hunting guns.
The Lee 310 is a great boolit and another is the RD 265 gr. There just ain't no flies on either. [smilie=l:
I have been shooting the .475 to .500's a lot and now the .44 really feels pleasant.

You got that right! I was shooting the 44Mag for a few weeks and when I switched to the .357, full power loads felt like 38 specials.

The 310 is a great bullet. The RD265 has been getting more play around here lately since it shoots so well in both the SBH and the 1894.

Given the discussion of the Lee 310, I feel the need to plug the current NOE group buy clone of the Lee boolit, but with a PB option, along with the usual NOE options.

@ Landric
I was looking at that. Looks very nice!
Funds are a little low at the time. A PB HP in that design would be slick!
Maybe I can come up with some scratch before this one closes.

I also use W296 with this bullet, out of pure Lino. Works like a charm in my SBH.

Makes me wish I had some money. No need for a gas check with the expense. I make molds up to the .500 JRH, Linebaugh and .50 Alaskan without checks. I have thought about removing it from the Lee 310 too. Easier to buy a mold.

I bought a FreeChex II for .45 caliber. I can also use the same checks on the .44 without any trouble...

A 300gr. isn't a pleasant thing to shoot. I shot some in my DW with a 4" brl. with a muzzle brake. Shot 3" high at 25yd. Good groups though. Got better results in my TC Encore with a 12"brl. Just bought a RD 265gr. off of someone here to try in my revolvers and lever.

44 mag and 296 go together like peas and carrots... Love the sound of the 310 hitting steel plates, really makes'em swing.

We have several months before the NOE mould runs, hopefully some of you folks can join the buy. I like to load the 310 in .44 Special, and the PB version will be perfect for that. I'm going to be using the GC version in .444 Marlin, I don't presently own a .44 Magnum.
