(Moderators feel free to move if this is not the right area.)

I just picked up a Leupold 36X target scope which I am going to have put on my 22-250. I noticed out by the objective lens there is a variable range feature. It can go from 50 yards, 100, 200, 400, then to an infinity symbol. My question is, what does this do or change? Does it actually adjust the point of impact? Or does it simply focus the lens for those respective ranges?

The objective is adjusted for parallax. Here is a link that will help enplane about parallax.

This may help with the adjustment.

2AN: Be aware that while your scope might not change POI when you use the objective lens parallax, other scopes just might. Check it out before depending on the POI staying the same thru all adjustments. ........... Big Cholla

Does that also change focus for those ranges My Redfield 24X does.

I have a Leupold 3X9 EFR on my Clark Custom 77/22 and it works great.

On this "Extended Focus Range" scope, the focus changes as the Adjustable Objective is changed.

But the paralax is also changing.

I have found that if the scope is in focus, the paralax is correct.

Because I spend time on the bench at 50 yds, and then may go after ground critters at 100 +/- both features tracking correctly is great! Turn it to 100 on the dial and go after the critters, move to the bench and tweek it back to 50yds, no problem.

Before the Clark Custom, I had a "trashco" - WITH "A.O." - on another .22 rifle and nothing would make that scope sharply in focus. In that case, I did get exactly what I paid for, trash!

Keep em coming!
