I need a small favor. This Spring, I'll be researching for an article on the .223 Rem. I'll be reloading it from .22LR levels through maximum top end.

For the very low end, I plan to shoot cast bullets, but I don't cast them and don't plan to. So I'd like to ask somebody here if they'd ship me a hundred or two of a design that works well from 1200 to perhaps 2000 fps.

I know it is technically illegal to make bullets for sale without a license, but I'd be willing to "trade" a few items for the bullets.

PM me if you'd be willing to help out. Thanks in advance.

It's not illegal to make them (boolits) as a gift.

I've got a .225 boolit that I'm trying to get a decent load out of, but so far me and cast boolits for .223 aren't getting along too well. Probably more to do with the Mini-14 along with the fact that I'm not a .223 fan in any shape, form or fashion.

However, I've found a load and combo that for the first time in a lot of load development, gave me a one-inch group at 50 yards out of that Mini-14, so I'm continuing to work on it. If nobody else has (better) boolits for you, let me know and I'll ship some your way.

Rocky,

Get with Bullshop. He will trade iwth you the old fashioned way, your money for his goods. he can legally sell and is in business to do so. he also has a variety of 22 caliber moulds.

Have a look at the 22 caliber only POstal match thread for some examples.

Manley what you have suggested, is pretty much what I have decided to do before I start buying molds, as I have read he will custom size them. Looking at all the molds available is kinda intimidating to a newbie in casting. I do have the advanyage of being able to drive over there and look at what I think I would want though.

If you got a Mini-14 to shoot 1" groups at 50 yards with any projectile you're my freakin' hero. Love the gun, hate the way it shoots IME.

Yeah, they had to defibrilate me right there on the range when the target came back, then hit me with smelling salts.

Problem is, I haven't been able to duplicate it, so it may have just been a fluke [smilie=b:

I like EVERYTHING about the Mini-14 and Mini-30 except for the way the (expletive deleted) pieces of (expletive deleted) shoot.

Mine isn't too bad. 1.5" to 1.75" 5-shotters at 100 yards using 69 grain Sierra Matchkings and 26.0 grains of WW-748. Space out the shots some in hotter weather.

I'd sure like a little further detail on your fluke load, sir. I have a small bolt rifle in 223 that behaves itself with lead on occasion. Its latest adventure with RCBS-55-SP in Linotype was a bit uneven, but I'm a long way from throwing in the towel.

Recluse, just give a shout if you need a CARE Package of .225" slugs. Same story for Rocky.

Lyman 55gr 225646 at 50 yards. These were 3 shot groups except the last, which was only 2. What is interesting too, is that the point of impact over the velocity range was almost the same. Of the 20 rounds fired, if combined into one group, they would be just barely over 1".

Lyman 55 gr 225646 at 100 yards Red Dot powder. Sure didn't like 7.5 grs :-) Grps 1 & 4 were 1.125" and grp 3 was .817".

Lyman 55gr 225646 at 50 & 100 yds. Had to doctor this picture up, in order to get the bullet holes to show. Same point of aim for 50 and 100 yards. Both 50 yard groups ahd 4 bullets in 9/16". Of course there HAD to be a flyer!

Rifle was a 1992 vintage Savage M112 single shot, 223 with 26" bull bbl, 12" twist. Tasco 6-24 x44 scope.

Not only the cast, Bullshop Jr. is selling his swaged .22 bullets, too. They may be able to outfit you for the whole shooting match!

I have tried 4 different mini14s and the best of the bunch was an honest 3" shooter. This was with loads that all grouped in the 6s and 7s in my Savage 112. I will pass on any more mini14s.
