I went to the range the other day. It was cold and windy and the smart shooters were warm inside their house at home. I shot a bit untill my eyes teered up too much. So I crused the fireing line to see if the gods gifted me any brass.
At first I thought I had struck gold but what I thought were 444 marlin nickel brass was in fact .410 ga alum berdan primed cases. I never saw those before.
I continued down the line abd found a .22 RF pice of ammo. It looked to be a short with a bullet 1.5ish longer than the case or a OAL of a 22LR. Again a first for me.
I am starting to feel ...."old fashioned".

Yeah but they wont shoot worth anything in my Kimber, where the T22 has done 1/4 in at 50yds.

.410 ga alum berdan primed cases

I've seen those in some catalog, can't remember exactly where. It was Russian ammo.

Golden bear ? silver bear? something bear.

EDIT: found it, it's silver bear.

The Aguila SSS accuracy was good to about 35 yards in a couple of my rifles, but fell apart after that. Any ground squirrel that poked his head out of a hole within that range at my old Cherry Valley place was as good as dead.

The .410 Golder Bear magnums are great out of the Cobray/Leinad MR pistol

Cos they need a faster twist than 1 - 16.

I seem to remember reading somewhere(Rimfire Central?) that some folks rebarrel their 10/22's to shoot these. I've had a brick, less one box, for quite a while because of the poor accuracy.

The SSS rounds are most fun in a 22 revolver. Can shoot them in the backyard without upsetting the neighbors, as they dont sound any louder than a pellet gun!

Those .410 Golden Bear's come in 5 round boxes. I bought a couple last year at a gun show, both are 2 3/4" cases. One was loaded with 5 pellets of #4 Buck, the other had a 97 gr sabboted slug. They use a crimped in plastic insert to hold it all together. The Magtec 3" brass I have is made out of brass and come in boxes of 25. Never got much past buying stage with those. Maybe this summer I'll play with them. They do resize in a .444 sizing die. I've done that for a friend that has some old 2" .410 brass he shoots ocassionaly.

The SSS ammo goes sideways through the paper at 25 feet out of a standard 10-22. It has really impressive penetration though. I've been looking around for a 10-22 aftermarket barrel with a 1:9 twist, so that I can shoot that stuff properly, but the few that I have found so far cost more than the gun did. I'm still looking.

There is a head stamp that could be a S on top (face on) of a B on the .410s.
