Can a lyman hollow point mold be Leemented successfully. Is it possible ? anyone try it? :cbpour: Kent

I would think one would have to put the aluminum tape only at the top so the mold blocks still close up tight enough around the HP pin. I've never done it, but I can't see it not working as long as the blocks still close well enough around the pin to not allow alloy to run by.

I guess I used the wrong wording . I ment leementing ,where you spin the boolit in the mold. Sorry

I've lapped "Leemented" a HP mold. Not a big deal at all, just don't put the HP pin in. :)

Rob How much did you gain?

I went from .4535 to .4545 on a custom 4 cavity mold. Since you have a 1 cavity iron Lyman mold you'll probably want to go with a course grit lapping compound such as 220 grit so it doesn't take as long. I used 220 and then 320 to finish. The big thing is to embed the grit into the bullet by rolling between two pieces of metal and then I like to wipe the rest off so I don't have all the compound between the mold block face.

How much you gain is up to you by keep doing it but at some point you will start to deform the mould. Best to recast a boolit about every .001 you want to increase to help keep from deforming as much.
