I have dealt with these people before on other metal over the years, have always been satisfied in what I got.

I was looking at the copper sheet they carry, specifically the 27 and 28 ga sheet seen here.

SHould I use this or find some 30 ga (.010) for my checks.

I bought the .010" copper foil (dead soft) from Storm Copper. When I looked at some of the others and figured in their shipping and handling charges (by the sq. inch), Storm was the cheaper, since their prices include UPS shipping.

Here's the link: http://store.electrical-insulators-and-copper-ground-bars.com/copper-foil--010--thickness---30-guage-copper-foil.html

Hope this helps.

Hi Guys
I'm not wanting to cause trouble here. I have made aluminum checks for years. The very low cost makes it worthwhile. Using copper from almost any scource puts the cost on par with buying them and you get the effort in makeing them .
I base my cost estimates on making 30 cal checks. Typically you get a check out of a 1/2" square or four per. square inch. If you figure the square inches you get ,its easy to get the cost per check.
I wish it were different too.I would like to use copper . It just dosn't work out cost wise.
If I have this wrong ,correct me. I want to make checks cheaply like everybody else. Copper would be cool to use.

And then there is brass which works just as well and is about 3 bucks cheaper for a 12x12 sheet from the same place . As for the thickness I would go bigger than .010 Its just not thick enough for my 30 cal bullets for me .012 is min. and .014 is just right .016 is still doable but with more effort

I would consider running copper again, but there is a considerable amount of time involved in processing for one, and the other is to get a reasonable deal on it, you have to buy a LARGE quantity- even larger now with todays truck freight costs.

It all has to be sold, invoiced, cut, boxed, labeled and shipped. Yadda- I will be looking at it again when I get my production setups finished here with all die calibers running on Checkmakers. Then anything over .010 gets even more expensive for some reason. There must be some type of universal use for .010.

I just got back from the SHOT Show this evening and all the brass and bullet manufacturers were complaining that they're paying $6.24 a pound for cartridge brass. Kay Scharch told me they aren't buying any raw metal at this time, as they can't charge enough for the finished product to make up for the raw material prices.

The same applies to copper, which is in the same price range.

Hmmm. That's interesting. I haven't followed prices in a long time.

Where was the shot show? Would like to go sometime.

Also wonder how the Obama administration is supporting copper and brass mining, or do we have to now buy that from China as well? ...

Pat,

The SHOT Show was in Vegas again this year, and will be there for the next two years, since they signed a contract with the Sands Convention Center for at least that long. It's a four day show, and if you want to see everything, it takes all four days. We skipped the clothing and Military and Law Enforcement sections this year. My knee was giving out on me after the first two days. Placed some good orders and made some good contacts, though.

All the bullet and brass manufacturers were complaining about the price of copper and lead. They said it makes them sick to have to turn $6.24 a pound material into $1.75 a pound scrap, and have people complain about the price of the finished product. When you do the math, and understand overhead, it's a wonder we can buy brass cartridge cases at the price we can. Some are working off old stock, or bought futures, which will get them by for the short term. It's the long term they're worried about.

Hope this helps.

The long term- it's what the whole countries worried about. Those with any common sense anyway.

Thanks Fred.
