Anyone heard of it? A friend of mine bought some in a tin at a garage sale when he was buying plumbing supplies.

It's used as a pigment for white paint.
Or at least it was before ghetto babies started eating it.

It was used in machine shops as a high pressure lube on the dead centers of a lathe. I have 2 little tins made by Dutch Boy. Plumbers may have used it as a lubricant also. It can be made by soaking lead in vinegar.
Will he sell it? There was a fellow looking for some on the "Practical Machinist" forum.

White lead was also used as pipe dope on pipe threads when screwing pipe and fittings together.

Sounds like lead oxide, maybe similar to the stuff they used to put in paint to make it opaque?
Might be a nightmare to reduce to elemental form.

White Lead as used in paint is Lead Carbonate (Basic White Carbonate of Lead). Lead reacted with vinegar would yield Lead Acetate.

Was used as a sealant for the old GM heavy truck diesel engines. I read where there were many health issues documented concerning the use of this stuff. I would like to see an /msds on it.

Flinn Scientific has a lot of good info on its website and here is a msds for lead carbonate. Good people to deal with.
