Anyone shooting the Lyman 311008 in their 32-20?

Mine drops a 20/1 alloy at .313" and it is a good lookin' boolit. I fired a few out of my Marlin Cowboy Carbine and it shot well but required me to seat it more deeply than I expected to feed through the action smoothly. I'm up over the front driving band. If set behind the driving band it will hang up in the action.

Seems to shoot well. Shows promise with 4.5 grains of Unique. Haven't shot it enough yet to know just what it likes and what it doesn't but glad I finally own a 32-20.

That's a real good boolit to plink with out of a 30-30, when sized to around .310 or .311. If I had a 32-20 it would be the first one I'd try.

I use a single cavity Ideal version. It drop 115 gr from wheel weight and 50% lead. I size .313 and use in in 4 Colt 32-20 revolvers. it works good over Trail Boss and Unique. My revolvers are old, 1922 and older, so I don't get too wild, but it seems to be accurate with most any lube or powder.

My first ever bullet mold was a 3118 in 1962. For my money, this is THE 32-20 bullet. Yes, I have the gc version 311316, and the pointy version311359, but for most shooting the 3118 does it all without the expense of a gas check. Unique is good, but my most uniform velocities come with 4756. With 2400 powder, the velocity spread can be an easy 200+ fps.
After 49 years and thousands of bullets the mold is as good as new. Also use this bullet in Ruger Blackhawk 30 carbine and about every other 30 cal.

I have a four cavity 31108 mold that I have had for over 30 years and it works great in both the 32-20 and the 30-30. I have shot them for both plinking and hunting for years and many a critter has fallen to that bullet over the years. I load most of them in 30-30 brass these days 6 gr of Red Dot makes a grea plinker and it shoots into about 2 inches at 100 yards in my marlin when sized to 312.

My Ideal 3118 DC has served me well also. My "go to" load is also 4.5gr Unique. With that load my old Mod. 92 shoots way better than I can.

1980s vintage 1894CL 311008 over 5.5gr SR 4756 in RP cases shoots sub 1" at 58 yards with a peep sight. I size 'em .313" and load 'em out to touch the rifling, so the front band is exposed.

Will it cycle through the action?

Thanks to everyone for the responses.

I use the 311008 in my Marlin and Winchester with great success, I load all mine crimped over the front band with grease in both groove. In my old 92 Win. I use Trailboss for squirrel hunting and AA#7 in my Marlin for varmints. Both cycle great. I have used other boolits and always return to the 311008.

Whit,

I load the 311008 in a Browning 53 and a Winchester/Miroku 1892, and I crimp into the top driving band with Starline and Winchester brass. With Remington brass I would have to crimp forward of the driving band, so I don't load them. Accuracy is excellent with 4 grains of Universal Clays. I also shoot the Saeco 322 bullet with the same load and similar results.
