got this from an old guys reloading sale and i thought it was a lyman 45 but when it arrived it is slightly different possibly an earlier version....want to lube some pistol bullets and martini henry ones too.....is it a lyman 5 .
they is no name on it but an upside down U which tapers in at the top if that helps....

That is a Lyman #45, looks just like the one I have on my shelf. Mine does not have any markings on it.

That is a 45. There were some variations of the lube cover.... I think if you would run into a "pre-45" it would not be orange.

Yup, it a 45, later version also with the solid cap/cover. The earlier versions had a spoked cap/cover as it was ment to keep the threaded rod in place and not necessarly protect the lube.
