Does anyone use a Lyman 358311 mold for 38 sp. I was going to trade for one an would like some options.

It is my favorite mold for use in all my 38 Colt Officers Models. 4.2 Gr of A#2 or 3.5 Gr of Bullseye and the old Colts fairly sing and dance. As some of the ol' timers used to say;" it shines"

I have an older Lyman 4-cavity mould for this boolit. I love it. I've loaded it in 9mm for a subsonic, but mostly I've used it in 38 and 357, as it was intended.

It's a dead-ringer for the factory RN bullets, possibly just a bit more pointed, but not much! I load 3.5grs to 4.4grs of W231 under it in 38 or 357 cases.

This bullet is far superior to SWCs, in terms of loading/speedloaders, and if you're just punching paper, there's really no other difference. It's at least as accurate as the SWCs.

I bought an old three cavity mold with no markings on it and no sprue plate on Ebay a couple years ago. It is a dead ringer for the 358311. Finally made a sprue plate for it a while back and cast a bunch up. It is rapidly turning into one of the best bullets I've found for .38. Loaded with BE, Unique, or 231 to factory duplication velocities it is more accurate than most of the loads I've tried using SWCs of various flavors. A good bullet!

I bought one used from a member here and it works very good for thirty-eight special use . I've been using five grains of Universal Clays with federal cases . I tried them in a three fifty seven with a moderate dose of 2400 and the gun didn't like it . For now I'm just going to use it in the shorter case untill it warms up outside and I can look at it again .

Sorry I don't have more experience to share .

bullets from my 4 hole 358311 deliver the best accuracy in a 38 Special of the dozen or so molds I have in that caliber.

Makes a dandy hollowpoint if you decide to go that route:

or this one:

I shoot the H&G #39 which is a very close design to the Lyman bullet. I shoot it over 4.2 of Bullseye which Lyman lists a a max std pressure load and it clocks 900 fps out of a 6" "K" frame .38. I have not found any bullet, WC,SWC,RNFP that is more accurate than that H&G RN and believe me I have tried a few. From a pure accuracy standpoint I think it's hard to beat the RN in a .38.

It and the #358250 are both extremely accurate in my Browning '92 copy using black powder. They both carry enough lube for an easy 50 shots without fouling out the bore, and are the most accurate I have tried. Funny how this rifle shoots so much better with black than it does with smokeless. Guess these old style guns prefer old powder!

You won't be sorry. My four holer is absolutely the best of my 30 odd molds when it comes to casting good boolits fast! It is more accurate than any of my SWC's and as accurate as my H&G WC mold--which is saying something, cause those boolits will shoot inside two inches from a 6 inch Colt Python at 35 yards. Be ruthless in your quest for perfect boolits and you will shoot some great groups.
