OK, What in the world is this. I know it is for a paper patched slug, but what is a 475gr. .4345 rifle slug used for? I thought about patching it to .460, but I dont think that will work. Any ideas??

Work just as well in a 45 My Hunting bullets are ,441 and with Thick paper patch to ,447 perfect for shooting in a fouled bore with Grease Cookies.

My Slug Gun Dora we use a .444 diam bullet patched to .4485 .449 there abouts.

isn't there a Mauser or Schuler that that would patch up to easily?

Wrap it in onionskin for a 44-xx, wrap it in printer paper for a 45 -xxx

Wrap it in onionskin for a 44-xx, wrap it in printer paper for a 45 -xxx

So there is the possibility of patching it up to .458? It wil be used in a trapdoor.

No you don't want to patch it to .458, 450 will do fine.
If you have some hp or xerox printer paper just cut your patches about 1 inch wide, hang about 1/4 inch of the paper over the base, when done rollling fold the paper over the base so it looks something like the crimp on a shotgun shell.
Load it over 70 grs of 2f black a .060 fiber wad and a lubed felt wad or grease cookie and a .030 fiber wad. seat the bullet about 1/4 inch into the case.
Heres a similar bullet I shoot for hunting loads it measure .435 and I patch it to .450 as I just described. It'll shoot minute of antelope at 150 yds.

I think you missed what was said. Patched up for 458 yes, patched up to 458 maybe no.
The folks that responded are patching to bore diameter or just under not up to groove diameter for a 458" groove barrel.
If you want to sell or trade it I may be interested.

Yup, I'd patch it to .450 in a heartbeat and load it as Don's recipe indicates. It'll work a charm.

That mould is a very close copy to an original Sharps mould.
That mould is close to mine in dimensions.
And that bullet shoots very good in my .44-90SBN

X 101, All the way!

I have 2 .44-90's and they are a fine caliber but a bear to get set up for as far as brass and dies, but they are a fine shooter.

Well, like my other posts... I got the bug for a SS black cartrige rifle. Single Shot. Stainless or blue would be fine. I had a VERY generous offer from another member, but cant swing a grand right now. I really dont care what caliber it is. Guess with my budget I may wind up with a handi-rifle.

Could be a Westley-Richards .425 Express.

Probably not...

x101: you just gotta save enough money for a Sharps. The US made versions are close enough in price to the imports to make it a no-brainer. Save up and buy U.S., you won't be disappointed.
