Is there a easy method to test purchased ingots for zinc? i just got some from fleabay, they look cruddy and have some purple tinting to them. I guess thats one concearn with purchasing already melted lead. Thank:coffeecoms in advance. great forum i have learned alot already.

Probably just pure lead. The purple tint is normal for pure, from what I understand. This thread has some good info on the "colors" assosciated with pure.

If there is any zinc at all , they will be very very hard.
I think you have pure lead.

Alot of the water main and service line lead has either a blue or purple tint to them when smelted. All the pure lead I have had did this

The colors will change in pure lead as more heat is added . I use to pour lead joints long ago if you over heated the lead it turned all kinds of pretty colors. It is more than likely just plain plumber lead over heated .
