Hi Guys,

I need some educated opinions here. I am making some shotshells for my 44 using standard brass and about 250gr of shot. I am planning on pushing it with 3 gr of bullseye to start.

The bullseye is slightly compressed and I am just wondering if this is a safe load to start with. Seems pretty safe to me.

Cheers,

For guidance on those .44 shot shell loads, see the loading data for Speer .44 shot shell loads.

7.2g unique, 6.0g SR7625, 5.7g 230, or 5.6g Bullseye in Special cases.

8.0g 230, 7.5g Unique, 7.5g SR7625, or 7.0g Bullseye in Magnum cases.

These loads are for their .44 Shot capsules, and should be safe for your cardboard overpowder wads. A drop of candlewax or an overshot gas check and crimped firmly will hold it together.

I loaded some 357 shot loads using an inverted gas check for a wad and another inverted gas check over the shot. powder could have been unique. as I remember I seemed to get more pressure with the shot than with an equivilent bullet, with the same powder charge. I covered the overshot gascheck with elmers glue after I crimped it in. the first snake I shot never twitched. I shot it again, but the first shot had killed it. I have 4.8 grains of bullseye behind a 250 grain bullet listed as max in a 44 special so 3 grains should be plenty safe.

Sounds good to me. Thanks for your time. I'll post my results when I get them.

If you find some 303 British shells, they can be cut off at the same length as your cylinder. Resize in a standard 44 mag die. Cut some milk carton plastic so one wrap will go inside the case. Use a card wad under the shot and one over the shot. The 44 mag crimp die can turn over the mouth. I used to make these for shooting birds out of the air with a 44 mag. Used #11 shot. The toolman

So you used the cut down case, powder, over powder card, plastic liner, shot, over shot card. How much of what powder were you using? Do you know the wt of your shot charge? Any trouble extracting the longer cases?
Thanks!
