greetings,
need a source for lead balls, or better ideas like - what size sinker weights to use to slug barrels.

how much bigger or limit on size do I need,

I have a couple of mosins, a turk 8mm mauser , 8mm Hakim and a couple of 303 enfields.

I am border line moronic so keep it simple, please

thanks

You don't have to be very fussy as long as the lead is very soft and the diameter is a small amount bigger than your bore. I just used .490 Hornady swaged lead balls to slug a .458 Win Mag. That is a pretty big difference but the important thing is the lead was pure and soft. You could even take a very oversize sinker and roll and tap it with a hammer to get it close to size, Search Youtube videos for slugging a bore and watch how several different people do it.. The important part is a clean well lubed bore and a well lubed slug. You don't want it sticking or smudging. really soft pure lead slides pretty easily once you pound it flush with the muzzle and then the first inch.. I use a leather mallet to start and then a short dowel, then a cleaning rod.

I use slick 50 in the bore and mink oil on the lead. slop em up good.

Can you not use a caliper to measure at the muzzle?

Well that did not come out as I typed it but I think you get what I mean. The size and the diameter of the sinker. I like to shave off a ring as you start in the muzzle for a nice fit. I have squeezed sinkers end to end with plyers to fatten them up to fit as bore also.

I used the .369 sinker in my cz82 but squeezed it down some in my bench vise first. Worked fine.

hi. just break open a 12gauge shot shell with "oo"buck shot in it and you will have enough slugs to do several 8mm bores, thats what i use anyway it works fine .
like other answeres lube the bore and slug good.:smile::twisted:

Last time I poured a few Boolits out of pure lead, set them base down, and whacked them on the nose to fatten them up. Seemed easier to keep them square with the bore than balls.

i was given the advise of drilling a\n appropriate sized hole in a 2x4 and pouring pure lead in. the busting the board to get the slugs out.

Like Map Paso, I just cast a few bullets from a soft alloy or pure lead, then use them to slug the bore. I measure them before and after. If they aren't smaller after, then I know I need a mold that drops a little larger.
