Actually I'm looking for thoughts and advice.
I been kicking around the idea of casting for my 9.3x74R. While I haven't slugged the throat and bore as of yet,,,I know it's tight in the throat, (custom Encore barrel with throat matched to groove). Even some of the Partitions that are a tad big will burnish in the throat. Of which I have seen +.0004", -.0002" of nominal. I'm thinking I won't be able to cast conventional boolits to .001-.002" over groove.

My thoughts are to have a mold made, say .356-360" dia.???? (that will depend on what the GC requires i'm thinking), gas check with a .366 check, then wrap the boolit bearing from the gc to ogive bringing it up to throat/groove dia.???. My throat length is longer than spec, as I had it throated for 286 gr NP's seated 1 caliber. I intend to use smokeless powder and hope for 22-2300 fps in the 280 to 300 gr. weight range. And if this works,,,, what alloy???

Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated!!!!

Unless you're dead set on using them a g/c really is'nt needed. I have patched boolits with them on to give it a try when I first started, didn't take long to cast up some & wrap without checks. You are right, slug your barrel, then see if there is a mold that will drop small enough to wrap to your final size, if not there is always lee push through sizers or Buckshot.

I cast a Saeco #352 0.358", 245gr bullet and roll it with tracing paper for my Ruger No.1 9.3x74R. No sizing, lubricant, or gas check is needed. At 2500 fps they shoot well and are deadly on wild boar. The Lyman 9.3mm M-die works well to expand the case neck for loading PP bullets.

I have a Ruger #1 in 9.3X74R that I pp #358318 up to .368. It will shoot under an inch at 100yds with no gascheck or with gascheck. so I shoot it without. So like 6.5 Mike says, gascheck not needed.

Shot nothing but paper with the Ruger. Did shoot a Russian Boar with a CZ550 in 9.3X62. I live in CT. Big game is here a fat squirrel.:-(

I use nothing but plain wheel weights for all of my bullets.

Lot cheaper to get or make a reducing die instead of buying a custom mould. Same results, just 1 more step to do in prepping the bullets. It will insure the bullet is round before patching, although I dont worry much about perfect roundness. Time the bullet exits the barrel it will be just as round as the barrel ID. is.

Personally, I'm not one to be overly concerned with spending a few extra dollars to get what I want. I just don't consider that frivolous spending, when it concerns shooting in any way. Although I do believe in being frugal in some ways. However, the last sentence are more my thoughts as well,,,, I'm not sure there are guarentees that a push through sizing die is absolutely perfectly round as well. Although if I feel I need one, I'll have one made.

Anyhow,,,,,, now it's time to figure out the paper part????
I wrote Tom at Accurate Molds this morning asking for a design to my wishes.
The plain shank is just a tad over my throat length plus 1 caliber of seating depth.
It is basically the 36-270B modified for such with a 50% meplat instead of the .24 meplat.
Soon as I get a handle on the paper, slug the throat and groove, then I can let Tom know the actual diameter needed.
And as of now, I'm thinking of using MuddyCreekSam's ISO lead with some Mag Shot added to get roughly a 95-3-2, and heat treat if needed for desired expansion characterists.
Here's the 275 gr. design Tom came up with from my general specs for use in the TC Encore,,

Cool,,,,just ran a BC estimator,,,,looks to be .401
