Has anyone made a non gas check bullet for a .460 Rowland? It is basically a souped up 45 acp. I want a 200 or 230 grain bullet that will feed in an automatic correctly and every time. I plan to use the gun as a backup weapon on a big game hunt. I have seen a few designs with GC but was just wondering about non GCed bullets.

the Lyman 452374 is supposed to cast at 225 gr i use the 452484 which is the gas check version and with WW i get 235 gr both are round nose, getting 1500 fps out of the 1911 Rowland with the 452484 steve k

The 460 Rowland is a lengthened 45acp case with beefed up head. It extends the velocity of the 45acp to 44mag territory so I would think he is looking at 1300-1500fps depending on boolit weight.

A plain base boolit should fit this bill just fine but I haven't tried it myself. I have loaded 44mag and 445 SM to this speed and above with plain base boolits.

LBT offers a LFN design in your choice of weights from 200 to 250 grain. I use the 230 gr version in my 45 ACP. You can also specify a gas check if you want one.

Here is a good read about cast bullets in a 1911 .460Rowland.

Nice article. I am scared to use #7 powder after all of the kaboom stories I have seen researching the 10mm and .460 Rowland load data. It looks like that there are 2 different burn rates for #7. The powder made in Africa appears to have a different burn rate than the #7 made in Australia. I think I will stick to my Blue Dot until this is figured out. I can only imagine what a "blow up" in a 460 would look like. Not to mention the expense of ruining a $1400 gun.
