Ruger Single Six .32 H&R with 6 1/2" barrel;

311316, 118gr GC bullet at 1020 fps; 4 gr Unique, Starline cases, WSP

Same bullet over 10.5 gr H110; 1175 fps

Larry;

Great information ........................ Thanks for the quick response.
I'm loading for an S&W 6" Model 16-4.
The 118 grain bullits I have are are flat points with a flat base (no gascheck).
I'll back off tenth of a grain or two due to the lack of a gascheck.

Thanks again .... I'm looking forward to shooting this gun that I bought a few weeks ago.

I loaded the 311008 (118gr?) over 6.5+gr of AA#7 in my 6" S&W. I'll have to see if I still have any of the ammo and just what the powder charge was, but no problems with leading.

The Unique load worked very well with .314 commercial cast 115 gr bullets in a S&W M16 w/4" barrel I had. Velocity was 975 fps and it was my standard load for that revolver.

.32 H&R, I've loaded plain based Ly 3118 (that's the old lyman # for the present 311008) sized .314" with 10 gr H110.

AA #7 has worked good for me also.

I've run a Mountain Molds 120 grain flat-nose plain-base to 1100 FPS without leading and with very good accuracy using Unique, Herco, AA-7, WC-820, and 2400. Faster is better--accuracy tightens up. Same story with Lyman #313631. RCBS 98 SWC is accurate from 700-1200 FPS, powder doesn't matter. This is from a Model 16-4 x 6", BTW--all boolits sized @ .314".

I noticed that too when I was working up a .32 H&R load, with bullets over 100 gr the faster you drive 'em, the tighter the groups. Rifling twist issue I suspect?

I thought that also, but I have a M&P in 32-20 with the same twist in its barrel (1-18.75"), and it shoots EVERYTHING pretty decent, from 85-120 grains, jacketed or cast. The #313631 isn't much longer than the RCBS 98 SWC, and weighs about the same (BIG lube groove). Hard to say.

I use 4.5 Unique in my new Ruger Blackhawk with 32 mag cases,

Use a NOE 313640, I use the HP version 100g, 110g or the 118 solid 16-1 alloy for solids 20-1 for HP:castmine:

I think if you start with 4 gr Unique and work up you will find a sweet spot.

I'm new to the site. I've been advised that 3-4 gr Unique or Bullseye is too small a load to be safe...explosion possibility. I really like the 32 H&R and now have a rifle built on a Remington Rolling Block #2 action, new barrel. My problem is I can get 95 gr Federal factory wad-cutter loads to shoot well but I get NO grouping (3 feet, 50 yards) with unique or bullseye. I have not checked the twist, but if a 95 gr will shoot, a 100-115 gr boolit should also, but it doesn't.:groner:
Please advise

I don't really have an answer as I have not found any loading information in my books for a .32 H&H Magnum in a rifle.

I'm most likely wrong ... but with the longer barrel of a rifle you may need a powder like 296 or H-110.

3-4 grains of Unique in a .32 Magnum sounds too low and trouble to me.

I use 3.2 gr bullseye behind the 90 gr Lee or Hornady SWC in my .32 H&R with no problems. I also use 2.1 gr with a HBWC, again with no problems. I also use much less Bullesye for real 'cat's sneeze" gallery loads with no problems. Many, many others do also with no problems. I also use 3.2 gr Bullseye behind the same 90 gr SWC in the '06 case with the same "no problems". "Explosian possibility"?...hardly.

What twist is yor rifle barrel? How fast were you pushing the 100-115 gr bullets?

DHB,

I've shot a lot of the lee and hornady SWC's from rifle and pistol. I'm loading them into .32 S&W long cases, but I find that 1.5 grains of tight-group is my go-to load. Most consistent and accurate in both barrel lengths.

Can you get a better group with a different load from the rem #2? Who made the barrel and who did the work?

Better yet, start a new thread with your issues, and let all the .32 shooters come out of the woodwork here, and help you solve your problems :)
