looking for advise

Dear Sirs,
I am just starting to use cast bullets and am wondering what would be the effects of using 8mm,(8x57) WW water quenched rounds on the likes of moose, boar and deer.
I don't have access to a chrony but the rounds I load easyly go through 2'' of pine at 100 yrds
Any input on this would be apprieciated- many Thanks

How heavy is your bullets?
I think that 193 grs was the standard weight for the 8x57 JS.

I ,m using a Lee 175 gr mold- I would only consider a lung shot at 100 m or so

Unless you get leading with it, I wouldn't bother with the water quench as it would aid expansion. If it will punch through that much pine, I would think it will neatly perforate a moose at that range. What is the charge?

the powder charge is the equivlant to Vihta 110 -so far I'm using 12 grs-it punches pine but she flies a but slow accuracy is so so -I've just started experimenting w the loads so as to get velosity/accuracy

If it is a 8x57JS I should water quench the bullet, anneal the nose, and push it to 2500 - 2600 fps out of the mussle.

I'm using a 214 gr bullet sized down from the Lee mould for the Styercast from w/w. I push it to 2000fps with RX7 and it will group into 2 1/2" at 100 yards and seems to work quite well. Since that is real close to the original 8 mm load I think it ought to do the job.

could you explain what "aneal the nose " means?
also I can't get to a chrony so I'm figure if the round goes through 2'' of wood at 100yrds it should have enough punch to it- or should I try to go through 3'' of wood?
