Hi all, Iam new to casting and bought a Lyman .41 mag # 410610 mould not knowing it was a gas check mould. My question is would it shoot as well without the gas check at 900- 1100 fps. Thanks.

Cigg,

I doubt that it will shoot as well as it would with a GC, but it may be good enough.

Proof of the taste is in the pudding. Let us know what you find out.

I have done some testing to find out that very thing, and was unable to see any difference in accuracy with .44’s or .357’s when gas checks were added. Keep in mind that my testing was done with open sights and old eyes, so there may very well be some improvement in accuracy when using gas checks, but that I am unable to see it.

There are lots of variables when shooting cast boolits and as Bass Ackward said the only sure way to find out is to try it yourself.

Ive used .22's in rifles without the gas check and cant tell any difference. Same same with .35's in revolvers. Load up a lot both ways and mix them, then you can blame any misses on not having a gas check.
