Anybody ever tried loading F/B boolits backwards to make 'em shoot like full wadcutters? Just curious.

I only do that in 308 for my HK...it just loves them.

Have fun with this stuff

Absolutely, for hunting when I was too poor to have multiple molds.

Sometimes for target work.

All the time for low velocity lead remover loads. The sharp base usually has a wider band that will scrape better that way. And if GC'd, the GC gets a crack at the leading before the front of the bullet irons it on to the bore. Works for me anyway.

I've seated .38/.357 (.358" & .359") and .44mag. (.431") wadcutters backwards because they were significantly and repeatably more accurate that way.

Just keep in mind that you may need to reduce your powder charge to accommodate the bullet nose inside the case. This would not be the place to experiment with hot loads.

I don't do hot loads.

We did that all the time with the Speer HBWC but I'm sure you are talking about SWC's and such. It would seem to me that the nose shape inside the case would lead to a lot of gas cutting and possible blow by if you loaded a hard bullet without much bearing surface. Just guessing as I have no loading time to see the results.

this exact thing is brought up in LBT book by vierl smith in one of the editions of his book jacketed perf from cast bullets. he would load swc ,tc ect bullets backwards in the case to make a quiter load ! he recomended heaver bullets for even quiter sounding loads i personaly have loaded over 1000 rounds in 38 special case with a 158 gr swc backwards with 1.0 or 1.5 gr bulleye ?, i shot it from a 2 1/2 inch s&w 19 without ear plugs with no problems and i did not bother anyone else aroud me without hearing protection either ! its as about as quiet as you can make it as it doesent go much over 3 to 400 fps and the accuracy is pretty good
