I've been trying to find something without spending too much for a solid mount for a scope base on a 6.5 Swede. A friend of mine finally ended up milling an adapter insert for the rear sight so I was able to mount a picatinny rail for a Remington 700 reversed with the front hole tapped on the receiver and the rear holes screwed into the adapter plate. This places a Simmons 2-6 pistol scope with the eye piece just ahead of the ejection point and provides just enough eye relief and mounts at the perfect height. But, it was a lot of work and effort.

I saw this discontinued B Square item

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1764/Product/RIFLE_BASES

At Brownells and it looks perfect. It would mount the scope over the action but for much less effort and a VERY reasonable price. Does anyone know what happened to these or where they might actually be available? Or, is there a competitive product?

If there is any interest, I could try to photo my set up. I have not range tested it yet.

I am attaching a photo of the B Square product I'm talking about.

I have an interest because I think I may like these Swedes and I have another one on hand.

Might get in touch with Dutchman here and ask if he is making one for your rifle. I have one he made for an 1891 Arg. Mauser and it is high quality.

Have you considered standard mounts instead of the waver style? I found several products for standard bases for both large and small ring mausers at MidwayUSA and Brownells. All hovered around the $25 mark

This is what I did some years back for scout scope mount on a Model 98 Mauser, other's mileage may vary, but it worked out very good for me.

Scroll down to 98 Mauser at link: http://hstrial-rchambers.homestead.com/early.html#

Daryl,

Every Swede I ever sporterized I used these on and had GREAT luck with them. Brownells has them in stock:

+1 for Tazman's recommendation of the Redfield Jr mount. It's easy to install and works very well. It also avoids industrializing the appearance of a nicely made classic. I have recommended that mount to the students in my gunsmithing class.

I'm still in the process of finishing 50 of these but they're all spoke for. I don't work out in the shop every day and there's been a lot of distractions.

If you know of a lower or better mount for the m/96 Swede then belly up to the bar and let's see it.

NICE Scout Scope mount Dutch!!!

I am a big proponent of Jeff Coopers scout scope setup although you do have to pick your rifles. I've got a Marlin lever with a scout scope setup and a Savage .308 10FCM Scout Rifle.

For you guys that just don't think the scout concept is worth anything you really should look through one. It's like the fast aquisition you get with iron sights only X 2.5................

I do have to admit I don't enjoy them as much at my age as I did 10 years ago...................maybe I need new tri-focals.............
