Western Bullet has a 630 grain bullet for the 45-70 . I would love to shoot this, use 520 grain now fun at 500 yards. Would any one have a clue where to start with this load. I have imr 4895,4198 also h 4895,4198 and some 3031 imr. this round goes in 2 throated handi rifles with 32 and 22 inch barrels.Best power in my 520 grain round nose(500 grainer from western bullet) load is 34 grains h4198. would like to hold velocities below 1400 running my load at 1350fps .

Okay I loaded 3 Rounds of the 630 grain bullets over 30 grain h4198. shot from 22 handi rifle 25 yards 1 inch group off hand. Gun i zeroed at 50 with my 530 grain bullets. might go to 32 h4198 see if groups hold. recoil is less than my 20 gauge single.

Got to range with next batch. Sorry no pics yet this week i should get that done.
With 32 grns h4198 630 grn lrn,wlr primer. 10 ft from muzzle avg of 5 shots was 1345fps. This was shot in 22 inch h&r rounds were touching at 50 yards1.4 inches. Cartridge oal is 3 inches. Recoil is there but not bad in my opion. If shot from rest or prone the steel butt could get you. Am going down a grain want the round running around 1300fps even.

I've fired one (1) Barnes 600 grain in my .458 at about 1900 fps and that was more than enough. The scope hit my eyebrow and I knew to keep well back. I had always heard the Handi Rifles were tough to hang onto. Firing a bullet like that might make me want to sit down and think about it a while first.
