do some of the old 22rf single shot no name brands have the barrels pressed on?
What is the best way to remove them?

Some barrels are pressed in, they usually have a cross pin installed for retention. To remove the barrel; find and drive or drill out the cross pin, then using a suitably large punch (I have read that a piece of 1/2" rod works well) drive the barrel out from the rear of the action.

Um, that would be a brass rod if you don't want to bugger the barrel... ;)

thanks for that.
how can you tell the difference?
I can't see a crosspin. I will inspect with a magnifying glass and good light

Good catch, S.R.
I think I would use a good penetrating oil, too.
