Gentlemen I recently pull out some old boolits from the back of the cabinet---they are softer than when they where cast but for what I'm going to use them for they should be ok---Question is they are covered with a (lead gray rust color) like the boolits rusted gray. will this have any effect on shooting performance.----Mag

Thats lead oxide and is a little harder then the lead. It won't hurt anything, just shoot them. To prevent it in the future, spray the boolits with Sheath or some other rust preventative.

Lead Oxide is the only dangerous stuff coming from the lead. It's poisonous if ingested or inhaled. Just wash it off and your hands as well, and go to loading.
