Since I took this week off from work, I've been getting a lot of work done around here, all of it shooting/casting related.

Tuesday was smelting day here. I know everyone likes pictures so here we go.

Here is a couple of shots of the raw material.
I figured about 4 and 1/4 buckets worth. The bucket next to the green one is all truck weights. I LOVE truck weights.
BTW, the electrical cords are for the Christmas lights.

So after working at this all day, here are pictures of the results:

The bucket in the front with the blue has 46 pounds of stick-ons in it.
The other two buckets are holding the 84 pounds of trash, valve stems, and clips.
The yield was 412 ingots weighing 418 pounds.
Add it all up and I had 548 pounds of raw to start with.
Since the truck weights were free this was an especially good haul for 3 cases of Bud Light, 10 bucks worth of gasoline for the truck, and the propane to melt it.
I figure $80.00 total. I don't count my time cause I enjoy it.
Comes out to a touch over 19 cents a pound.
I'll take that any day of the week and twice on Sundays. :drinks:

Don't you met the stick on's?
Shoot, half my inventory come from stick on's. You just gotta mind these new Zinc ones. I have been noticing a lot of steel ones and believe it or not a lot of thick pliable rubbery ones too. Wonder what that crud is?

No, I live north of Denver about 20 miles. Been there many times though. Nice area for sure.

Yeah, but I wait until I have a couple hundred pounds worth before I do them.
Haven't run across those hard pliable rubber ones yet. Thanks for the heads up!

That will make a lot of nice bullets. Well worth the effort you went through.

...north of Denver about 20 miles.

OK, spill, where the HECK do you get free truck weights?
I'm in Saudi Aurora, would drive up there with a bucket
(assuming you divulge the source!).

Sorry.
I could tell you but then I would have to kill you. :kidding:

Seriously though, have you driven out east on I-70 and stopped at the small garages/tire shops in those towns out there?
Like Byers, Bennett, Deer Trail etc?
I've always thought that might be productive but I've never tried it.
Could be a nice way to kill a Saturday, especially this time of year.
Take a shotgun and a map of state land and try to kick out a rooster or two while you're out there. :)

Nice neat job of melting, if it would of been me melting on the deck the carpet and vinyl railing would be melted as I am messy.

...have you driven out east on I-70...

I go out there occasionally anyway but usually not enough time to shop around.
Might be worth taking a weekday trip in the truck.
With several buckets.
There's a junkyard or two I've been wanting to check out.
The wife likes to go driving out there, maybe I'll take her, she's pretty strong.
