Hi Yall. Been reading posts on lead alloys here and wanted to share experience with yall. I had bad issues with consistent weight and diamater / fillout on all boolits I was making. I would weed out around 30%. Not because i was picky, but had sometimes a 10 grain variance. Read an old alloy recipe and cross referenced it with my lyman manual and other sources, then put my own twist on it to accomodate what i had on hand. My final recipe follows:
4 pounds lino
15 pounds pure
20 pounds WW
2 pounds 50/50 solder
cast at 700 - 750 degrees
Wonderful consistency. Weight variation was down to +/- .5 grain in all calibers. Fillout was so good that eye inspection yielded 5 re-do's in a 5 pound coffee can of 44 mags. AC comes out at around 14 bhn. WD comes out at 24 bhn. PERFECT!!! No doubt the best boolits i have ever cast. Thanks guys!
