In lieu of my intermittent hand pains from building things for the Nukem Ranch I had to reluctantly liquidate my .500 S&W's.

I am though feeling quite naked and though I do have several 45 Long Colts I would really like for the wife and to have:
Model 29's in 44 Magnums.
I feel I can handle the recoil even with my hand ailments.
Should I talk myself out of this? I'm all geared up for the 44 magnum with our Marlin 1894's already.
Thanks for letting me ruminate with you,
Duke

And of course for my visual impairment I will require the same scope to be used on my 1886's.

I have a buddy that has one on his Kimber 45 ACP. I don't like it simply for the fact that it is way too bright under most situations I've fired it under. Tape over the sensor helped but still not enough. The dot was quite large at 25 yards.
I have been contemplating getting the Ultra Dot that has brightness controls that sells for roughly $225.
Just my thinking only.

Only you can be the judge of this.

I shoot the 44 quite extensively and two years ago developed a Gangleon Cyst in my wrist. ( a recurring cyst, that is not harmful, easy to get rid of by smashing it, and reoccurs. Doc's dont know why they develop) If my wrist is in pain, I might as well hang up the pistols for a rifle as I flinch because I know severe pain will come with the recoil. I have no problems when I am healthy.

One must be able to toatally block out flinch/ recoil in order to shoot a pistol well.

i personlay have over 25 red dot sights mounted on mostley hand guns and some rifles i have or have owned most of the better brands !
i dont owen a leupold delta point but a close friend/ shooting buddy bought one ! to make a long story short he returned the red dot back to the store twice to swap for another and back to leupold twice before he got one that worked correctly! leupold said they have a problem with the dot being to bright and are working to correct the problem ! menwhile a tech hand picked him one that worked correctly and sent it to him , this one is ok
i have or have owned a tasco optima , 1st and 2ed generation doctor sight , burris fast fire , tru point and a pride fowler special ops sight the the only one thats works correctly is the PF sight all others were too bright. the pf sight has a 3 postion on switch, off, on/auto and full power . the other bias brightness off of full power thats there problem. some times you can put some tape over the light sensing port to adj the brightness correctly but if the lighting changes you have to go through the process again with the leupold delta point the sensor is inside the bottom of the lense and the tape cant be used to satisfaction . also some times sunglasses help.
forgot to add this is the round dot model not the triangle model

I use a Burris Fast Fire on my Ruger Bisley .41 Magnum and really like it. Have you considered a Single action revolver? The felt recoil is completely different than with the S&W N frames.

Find a set of rubber grips that fit your hand (or wife's hand) and put the wood grips away for when you sell the thing. Shoot med/light loads for practice and full loads for real work, but you know all that.

Get a ported heavy barrel 44mag from the S&W custom shop and shoot 250 Keith SWC's over 9 grains unique.Mine is one of the older models and a tack-driver,the quality and trigger is very good.Recoil isn't bad with the heavy slab barrel guns.

I currently have the DeltaPoint with the 7.5MOA Delta and I'm very pleased with it. I shoot everything with both eyes open (air-Rifle, Revolver, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun etc) and once you get familiar with using a heads-up display I think you'll like it.
IMO, the best part of any red-dot sight is you have no sight alignment issues and that is a great benefit to accuracy over iron sights with moving targets. For older eyes it's a great aid to accuracy, as well, under any type of shooting.

I got my 1st red-dot last summer (Leupold DeltaPoint) and I now feel like a fool for waiting so long. I really like the large delta for close work and I use the tip of the delta for load development and longer range shooting. For me anyway, I find using the tip of the delta to be as accurate as a 2X scope with the benefit of not having the weight of the scope. (I have no experience with the "dot".)

From my experience it's one tough puppy, as I've shot these calibers: 45 Colt, 454 Casull, 500JRH and 500 Smith with it and so far I've experienced zero problems. No problems with brightness or losing zero.

The only thing I don't like - after adjusting/moving your sights you have to "lock" it down and then remember to "unlock" the unit prior to making another adjustment. I have this funny feeling I'm going to forget to unlock it one of these days - then we'll see if Leupold still covers "stupid" in their warranty (they always have in the past).

We have just about every shooting glove out there including the best of the lot as far as padding goes which is the Wiley X. Wiley X has the best padding bar none.

I asked Duke to get a couple pair of WILEY X TAG-1 Gloves in Foliage Green. They are Nomex and Kevlar so they are flame resistant and cut resistant. Gives us that added protection from stray shards of lead that might belch from the muzzle brakes or cylinder gap-age. GAWD! knows what would happen if I broke a nail and had to go to the emergency room at the nail shop. <drama queen>
Also there is pads on the wrist which I myself would use for resting my behemoth on a branch to take my shot.

I sure don't want to get on the wrong side of Barbie. Those gloves look like they will hold up to a lot of torque. After ruining a couple pair of PAST I tried these and so far they are holding up very well to the heavy haulers.

Duke, I have a 629 with the Ultradot and it does well. Of course this is a bit different type of dot sight then what you are looking at, just a suggestion. The Ultradot in the link below is what I have. You can adjust the dot size and brightness. This scopes dot size will go as small as 4 MOA.

A little more pricy but the Matchdot goes down to 2 MOA.
