My book says that within the serial # range starting with 73251 and ending with #146899 you may have a .38 M&P Model 1905 2nd change overlapping with the first change with in the same serial # range.
The No# 2 change will have two dowl pins in the star extractor.

If you can get it closer to the $200 end, it's well worth it. A few years ago, I picked up a Model 10 from a police supply shop. They took it in trade from a security guard who was upgrading to a semi-auto.

When they checked with the boss, he said he'd sell it to me for $125. I had them write it up on the spot.

Taylor, I have a bit of experience with the model 10. I would say go for it but not at anything like 5 to 6 hundred. A bit of dickering should get you down around the 2 hundred mark and you will be hard pressed to find a better weapon for overall use at that price point. Reliable, easy to work on (or to find someone to work on it for you), lots of available options in grips, and an absolutely insane variety of loads available to try......hard to see a downside....good luck,:Fire:

Can't imagine paying $600 for a M&P. LOTS out there, even a really nice one should be
more like $400 tops, and normal about $300-350, and a bit rough, $225-275.

This same shop, last summer had a Ruger Vaquro for $600,cylinder would not rotate, hammer could not be pulled back.I offered them $100,I thought she was going have a heart attack at the sound of my offer. She did say that if I could prove the value of the Smith, she would let me have it at it's book value.

The most I've paid for a M10 is 400$ and that was a 10-5, 2" LNIB. I studied it for several days before I did it. I was hoping some other fool would pay the price but I guess it was my turn.

It seems to me that some of those pawn shops are right proud of their stuff . I saw a Garand this past october in a shop that thought the rifle was worth over sixteen hundred dollars . It had a Springfield action from mid to late forty-three a Criterion barrel that wasn't clocked correctly . A new Boyds stock complete with the wrong angle on the bottom of the pistol grip and a brand new "EmcF" cartouche . The whole thing had been reparked and they called it all original .

If it's your turn like Guesser well then ok , you'll just hafta like it a whole lot more right ?

I've seen some good finds in Pawn Shops, and I've seen some of the worst as well. I tend to think that your average pawn shop is just that...'average'. I'm not downing pawn shops in anyway...they are there to make a profit the same as any other business.

I seems to me that more often than not, when you find an outrageous price on a used firearm in a pawnshop...it's due to the fact they are not gun people. And sometimes they may get taken for a ride, and they are just passing it along hoping to recoup their loss.

Over the years I've seen some rather unscrupulous pawn shop owners, thankfully they seem to be falling by the wayside as time passes.

As for the S&W Model 10? I think it's a way underated handgun. I always keep my eye out for a 'beater' Model 10 for a truck/creek bank gun. Can't beat em'.

Jack; yeah it was my turn, but that '10 sure is purty compared to some of the things coming out now; and its already gettin more gooder as time goes by.

I picked up one about 4 years ago (heavy Barrel) at a gun shop in San Antonio for 275.00 and other than the grip showing age from time it was like new. The best feeling and most accurate handgun i have ever owned.

That pawnbroker needs to put down the crack pipe. $400 is my absolute top end for a 98%+ example.

Picked up a 2" Mod. 10-2 on the 24th at my local gun shop.. It sure looks like it was a dresser drawer gun.. Looks NEW and it is beautiful.. Gun shop had it priced at $375.. I walked out with it for $300... think I got a good deal..

Model 10 and the earlier M&P S&W's are generally excellent shooters. But they are certainly not worth $500-$600. more realistically $300 for one in very good condition. LOL

It is my belief that it is a model 1905 3rd change. As soon as S&W comes back to work,I'll find out for sure.Bought Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas today, nice book. Would this be OK for modern rounds?
