made for the ed smith Gas Master Check Making System from his book so that i can use it using an old drill press that i had laying around for years.took me a little over an hour using this set up to make 1,000 .338 checks. will be going to Harbor Freight to check out their arbor presses to see if there would be any advantage using it instead of the drill press. all the finished checks fall through the hole in the drill plate into a container. pretty slick.

I just checked the data base for trade marks, gasmaster, and gas master are already trade marked, nuts ,I do find it interresting that I can not find the trade mark for FREECHEX, it is not in the data base, also the trade mark for checkmaker comes back as abandoned in aug. 5, 2003. mabey I am looking in the wrong place. I ain't too smart when it comes to those things. :)

that that would work. can any body check out the word freechex to see if it is really trademarked? I can not find it any where, I could be looking in the wrong place. if it is, that is great, but, if not, I have a problem with that. Ed

I may be wrong...but I think to be "trade marked" it needs to be registered ("R").
But to be copyrighted you simply need to say that it is. Either way..it can't be used without permission of the one that "C" copyrighted it or "TM" or "R" trade marked it.

In the case of "Chex" , it is ("R") registered to General Mills, so I doubt anyone else can use it.
But, as i started out....I could be wrong on this. Either way...I would use something different "CHEX" simply because it is a knock off of General Mills "R" trademark.

I am not interested in using the word chex, just that I don't like a phony claim of some thing being trademarked. :)

I would like to see some of the checks you made.

I made one for .458 for my 45-70 but they look folded on the sides and are to long. I plan on trying agin with a smaller disk size. May make another for PB checks. To much to do not enough time to play.

i sharpen the disc. punch using a fine diamond lap tool before every session of check making makes cutting the material easier to cut and cuts the edges cleaner. i am using roof flashing purchased at home depot. .008 thick.

Rick:

What size did you make your disk diameter? I made mine .625 it is way to big.
How tall are the sides of those checks?
Thought it might save me some time if I had the correct size for the next try.

Man they look great compaired to mine.

swede44mag,
PM me a mailing address and i will send you some of these checks. i made this check maker for a friend as i do not have any .45 caliber molds that use a gas check. this disc punch measures 0.551 using measurements of his bullet shank. what thickness of material are you using? these are .008 thick. if your skirts are getting the coke bottle effect you need to bevel the inside of the disc punch cutter some more and smooth up the inside of the tube some more also. make sure that the form punch has no sharp edges on it. if you are using .010 or less material you might want to try a little thicker material.

I don't think 'bullet butt caps' has been taken for a trademark name
