How do you go about forming 25-35's from 30-30's without getting lube dents?

I don't have a 25-35 .....yeat
But I have formed 219 Zipper from 30/30

I don't sweat the lube dents

After forming I clean the cases and fire form them

No more lube dents

Be very sparing with the lube. Run the case part way into the die, drop it, turn it about 1/4 turn, and do it again. Rotate the case three or four times as you move it deeper into the die. Takes a little longer, but it will stop the dents.

Do like Chargar said.

I haven't formed any .25-35 cases, but I did neck down one lot of R-P Nickle .32-20 to .25-20.

I didn't get lube dents on the shoulder, but I did crease several necks.

It is helpful to have an intermediate step between 30 and 25 caliber. If you don't have a set of forming dies, I would use one of the shorter cased .270 or 7mm die such as a 7x30 waters or 7mm-08. The 7x57 is too long.

All good advice. I've gotten lots of dents, they do fireform out. One bit of advice I'd pass along- anneal your brass after forming and trimming, but before fireforming. For that matter, if the 30-30 brass has more than one firing it helps to anneal before forming.

I make 25/35 brass with one pass through a set of Hornady dies. No sweat, no problem.

Yes, go easy with the case lube.

A little bit of Imperial sizing wax is all you need.

STP also works very well, but is the total pits to clean off the cases.

Keep em coming!

Yep, that's what I does. That last little bit and zappo, denty more. Doesn't hurt anything except case life because firing does of course jerk the wrinkles. That's OK I reckon. A '94 isn't the best way to have ever lasting cases any how. Got whole 'nother bag of once fired 30-30's.

Crusty Coot,
My dies are Lee's. Might try me some Hornady's just to see how she does.
