I have a 50 cal. muzzleloader barrl that I would like to try drilling and reaming to 62 caliber. Anyone ever done this before that could save me some headaches later. Thanks.

Is this to be a smoothbore?

I made a square armory reamer from drillrod . I first drilled the barrel out then used the reamer to smooth up . Polished with flapper on split rod . Used a lot of oil and fed the drill and reamer slow with lathe at slow speed. Polished with medium speed . Turned out pretty slick on the 14" and 8" pistol barrels . I bored and reamed a 16" smooth barrel to .58 from 4140 round stock too.

I do them occasionally but then I'm set up to ream barrels. Hope your barrel has no dovetails or screw holes that might be to deep. I take out most of the metal with a piloted drill and then pull reamers through the barrel on a lathe. An old power steering pump keeps oil going to the reamer and keeps the chips flowing out of the bore. Reamer is mounted to a tube and the oil is pumped through the tube.
