I use 29 grains of IMR 4064 for a Marlin 336W. No idea how fast it it is going but it gets to the POA every time (unless the operator has a major brain malfunction). I have used up to 31 grains, but the 29 grain load shoots best for me using the Lee 170 gr bullet.

I can't remember offhand where I got this load, but I think it was from the CB section of the Lee Manual. Regardless, this load is just a little bit under the starting load for Jacketed bullets for this powder as listed on http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp

Try at own risk.........and all that stuff.

EDIT: Even as soon as I wrote my response I got to thinking I might have goofed...and sure enough I did. THIS IS WHY YOU MUST ALWAYS CHECK ANY LOAD AGAINST PUBLISHED DATA. LOADS CITED ON THE INTERNET, HOWEVER WELL INTENTIONED, CAN BE THE PRODUCTS OF FAULTY MEMORIES....which is the case here. After I retrieved my notebook, I found that 29 grains of IMR 4064 is my most accurate load for 170 gr Hornady SP jacketed bullets. 29 grains of 748 does a great job for me with Ranch Dog's 165 gr Cast bullet cast at 18 BHN+. So far my best load with the Lee 170 grain CB is 22.5 grains of Reloader 7. Hope this new info clears up any misinformation I may have spewed forth earlier.

Guess I'd better go back to lurking......

Resurrecting this old thread to add that IMR 4064 is a very accurate and soft shooting powder with the 150 grain Sierra in my Marlin Glenfield 30. I use 30 grains, which is a little below the starting load of 31. This is the load I'll be hunting deer with this weekend. Gonna try it with boolits soon as I get a chance.

My 336 with the Ballard rifling likes 30.5 gr. IMR 4064 behind the Lee 170 GC and sized .309. YMMV
