Is there such a thing or do you have to use one for a different caliber and just make it fit? I haven't seen any and I need some, just trying to figure this out.

You "may" be able to make a .41 caliber gas check fit, but I've never seen a 10mm mold that would take a gas check. I've got a bunch of molds in that caliber, but they're all either bevel base or flat base.

I may have to give this a try and see if it will fit like a plain base check.

Hope this helps.

Gator makes gas checks for a .378" shank diameter that are suitable for the 40 cal. Their OD is .414". The Hornady 416 takes a .392" shank and is .418" outside diameter. Gas check 40 boolit molds are currently available only from custom mold makers, like me.

Thanks guys. Tom, I'm getting ready to order my mold from you, which gas check would you recommend? Do the Gator checks crimp on like the Hornady's?

Gator makes an excellent crimp-on check. At half the price of Hornadys. The Hornady requires a shank that's only .008 less than .40, and that would be a big problem. The Hornady serves double duty for the .416 rifle and 41 mag. Gator offers 2 check sizes for the 41 mag, thick and thin, and the thick one allows the smaller shank suitable for the 40, and Gator sells it as a 40 when requested. Blammer can provide them to you. Because the check is .414" OSD, it works best to insert the check into (or actually on top of) the sizing die, bump it with the top punch to get it started into the die squarely but not past the crimp, then add the bullet and size all the way. It sounds complicated, but after the first few it's just as easy a method to install a check as any other.

Just curious, but what are you firing that would need a checked .40? I'm putting hot 180gr casts through mine by the hundreds (ww alloy water dropped) with a shiny bore all the time. Or is this for a screamer load in a 10mm?

I use them in an H&K USP with original polygon barrel with 165 gr at 1200fps with AC WW. Yes, I've tried water drop and yes I've tried other alloys and yes the boolits are oversized even after loading. This barrel fouls severely without checks and doesn't foul at all with them.

The thing you should be asking is where are the moulds to make GC .40 bullets. That is the real problem. I have a heavy .40 WFN LBT GC mould for loading heavy loads in my 10mm's and the LBT moulds use .41 GC's.

I just got my Christmas present yesterday, a Storm Lake ported barrel for my Glock 32 (.357 Sig), so now it is a Glock 23 with 2 ports sticking out the end. Not that I would try it, but what a load that must be! If you don't mind my asking, what mold are you using for 165 grain boolits? Most of the molds I have seen are 175 to 180 grain.

I am Tom from Accuratemolds.com and I am using my own #40-165A. I've also made a 135 grain gas checked that's in the catalog, and if you'd like any different weight, all you've gotta do is ask.

Tom, Interested in a ligthweight .40. Do you have any actual pics of your bullets? I have a cut down Lee mould that makes 150 TC's but a plain base. I am interested in a 165 with a GC.

Here's one. The 40 that I shoot is in the middle.

Tom,

There's a thread in the wheelguns forum you might wish to reply to: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?p=1094079#post1094079

He's looking for a gaschecked .45 mold for the .460 Rowland. Perhaps you can help him out.

Hope this helps.

Tom, that's an interesting lineup of mould designs you have.

Thanks. People from all over are emailing and telling me what to draw, so I can't even take credit for most of them.

I have some Gator 40 cal GC's for sale.

I didn't see them on the list in the group buy section, that's why I ordered the Gator checks elsewhere. Am I missing them?
