I'm thinking about taking up bowling pin shooting this winter. Anyone load these boolits for .45acp before? Suggested load?

I'm shooting a Taurus PT 24/7 Pro C DS.

Thanks in advance

Used that mould for my introduction to casting boolits. Initially, I bought it for a revolver, but a few found their way into the .45 ACP Randall. After experiencing a continual feeding problem, I shelved the idea. Later, the problem was traced to three poorly manufactured, after-market (Chi-Com?) magazine followers. Both the revolver and the mould were sold.

The only load data, for that weight, I was able to find was from Midway's out-of-print .45 ACP LoadMAP manual.

Good luck with the project.

I have loaded that boolit in the past, and it worked fine, but it's been a while, and I don't remember the load, or OAL well enough to quote it.

I don't have here with me but I'm sure the LEE Reloading manual lists a load for it. I don't remember what powder was used but I kind of remember it spit the boolit out at around 750 fps or so.

I'll be watching this one as well. I have that mold and have been considering trying it in my ACP. Otherwise the mold can go in the garbage as I have moved up to Mihec and LBT molds.

I think I'll need to upgrade my series 70 with,

Full legnth guide rod - 20lb spring
Shock Buff
Heavy firing pin spring
EGW flat bottom firing pin stop

Also I will need 45 Super brass

Any other suggestions?

I've used these bullets for over thirty years in .45 ACP and .45 Auto Rim. As long as you run them thru a .452 sizing die and champher the case mouths of your .45 ACP/AR cases you shouldn't have any problems in either the revolvers or the Autos. Mine have fed in both my Colt 1911 Series 70 Government Model as well as in my Springfield Armory 1911 GI series.

I shoot a lot of them out of my S&W625 and 1917 revolvers with no problems and good accuracy. I cast them out of range scrap and WW and size them with a Lyman 4500 Lubrisizer.

I've enjoyed the Lee 255 RNFP in my 1911s on Pins. I don't have my load book here but I remember and old sages advice that big and fat slow worked on pins. I loaded to a balance of reliability and recoil reduction. They really make a pin jump when you hit it in the sweet spot.

I'll try to remember to look up the loads.

One thing to watch with most semi-wadcutters is that front driving band. Many 45 ACP autos have short - to - no throats and seating that band out much more that .050 of an inch and it'll drive itself into the lands. Sticks very nicley, too.

Search my threads, I'm pretty sure I posted one about using the Lyman 452424 in my S&W Shorty Forty Five. Good luck and welcome to the forum too!
