No matter what kind of load data you're looking for, you can find it on Cast Boolits!

2400 to 5000+ fps velocity! That is quite a spread, with projectiles weighing from 8 to 31 pounds. What a gun!

It must take a strong man to hold the mold handles for the 31 pound boolit!

I have one of those casings next to my book shelfs . Oddly enough , that's one of the few I haven't considered getting a gun to go with .

Fisrt, it's a 105mm cannon. Howitzers would have no use for an 8 pound sabot or heat (High Explosive Anti Tank) rounds. Second, I humped enough of them around to know the difference.

The M116 (75MM Pack Howitzer) is easier to reload and hell allot fun to shoot.

Finster,
The intent of the post was just for fun. I'm sorry my improper nomenclature upset you.

Not upset at all. just relating my experience with 105s. ! am sure we have plenty of Arty guys around, us tankers, we like to see what we shoot at.

The second one down, RAD 60710 list 96.8 oz. as max load. would the other .2 oz put it over the top?? You know, a HOT load?? Do you get flattened primers or incipient case head seperation with artillary shells??

Jeez, what about the poor guy in the lane next to you! I mean, I've caught hot brass in my collar before, but that seems to take it up just a notch or two... :D

I'm glad Uncle .Gov pays for those reloading components. I suppose we all do, but 2-3 of those rounds would tap me out to refill.

That data is all well and good, but the powders are non-canister. We'll never be able to duplicate those loads. [smilie=1:

Yea, I've had a 45 or 2 hit me square between the eyes before...:holysheep

The guy at the next bench hit me in the back with a .308 empty while I was putting my equipment on my bench, I whipped around to tell him he needed a deflector just as he fired the next round, which hit and cut my nose. I wasn't a happy camper. The "spray and pray" crowd at our range are completely oblivious with respect to where their empties go. Ticks me off. No consideration at all for others on the range. You gotta love load data that measures powder in ounces!!!

You get the ejection spray at the sporting clays range also. Must be a weird type of humor to set the rack where the empties hit the required racked guns.

The gun that I want is smaller takes 8 ounces of fg for a blank and will scorch a good sized patch of grass at that.

Yep those are rounds for the M60A1 tank and the Abrams.
The cannon is known as.. Cannon 105mm M68
When we fired the SABOT ammo (5000fps) the recoil would lift the two front roadwheels off the ground. M60A1 tanks weigh 53 tons . Bore wear factor was 3 with each round. Each new tube was rated at 200.. so it did not take many SABOT to burn out the throat area. It was not advisable to fire the main gun with SABOT to the side as recoil was very sharp as there was little sway to the side. Muzzle blast would kill any non protected person with in 25 feet. It was forbidden to fire those rounds near infantry. The Tungstin core would penetrate any known armor from any angle to include 16" of naval armor.
The HEAT round Was a real ***** cat to fire but the chemical explosion on target would burn through most any armor. HEP was real low recoil and the wear factor was so low we did not keep close count on rounds fired.
Armor 71-74

Who gets the once fired cases?

The Gunner's Mates on the destroyers used to fight over the brass ones from the 5" guns back in the early 70s. They were transitioning to mild steel cases back then and the brass ones were becoming scarce. We used to make ash trays from the brass ones. I hate to think about all the brass ones that got tossed overboard during the wars.

Missionary, it was a bit of fun being in the drivers seat at gunnery. Just like an oversized rocking horse. 2d ACR carried SABOT, HEAT and four WPs. Had to unload every time we rail headed, then reload at the border camp or Graf. Got lot's of practice.

Howdy Finster101
Been to Graf and Baumholder also. Rail heading was Ok... I am rather small framed so I fit on the overhead racks... great place to sleep.
Interesting they only gave you 4 HEP... But I recon you knew like all of us we were gonna have to stop Russian and East German Armor. The M68 was one fine single shot. Popping the 2x4 target panel supports at 1000 meters got to be rather easy once ya learned how to get the slack out of the fire control system.
Did you learn about mini-mortars...?

Finster101

No mortar experience for me. We patroled the East German, Cheq border so pretty much all we carried was armor defeating stuff. We were always fully loaded except for rail transport. 10,000 rds 7.62, 5000 rds .50cal and 1000 rds of .45 for our 1911s and two grease guns. Went to A3s while I was there and just after I left they got M1s. Those 105s got heavy, and by the time I was in the brass casings were a thing of the past. Jim, sorry for hijacking your thread. I meant no offence and was just having fun with it. If you had posted 155 data the FA boys would have gotten involved, but that is a little more like black powder what with them loose bags and all. :D
