I recently have became interested in making my own simple 22 rimfire rifle. I am still in college and don't have any machining tools. I am just wanting to start research for someday when I do get settled and get a shop set up. Any resources for gun building you guys could point me to would be really appreciative.

Thanks,
Matt

I don't do that sort of thing but these two sites might be useful.

Matt, be sure to check up on the laws for manufacturing a firearm. This is in the court here in Montana, and other states are pending. BATF takes a dim view on missing out on manufacturing taxes at the time.

Already did research on that. BATF states that as long as there is no intent to sell, you can build anything for yourself that is legal to own. All you have to do is give it a serial number.

Found a website www.homegunsmith.com
I signed up and from what little reading I did, there are lots of super nice guys there that do this sort of thing for fun. I'll go pick their minds.

Thanks,
Matt

Wonderful endeavor young man!!!

You will need a drill press to drill holes of course, and center punches to make the starting dimples and not much else with these plans other then a hacksaw and files.

Its a yahoo group, so you must join to view the files (no spam or viruses are on the sight, I'm a member myself)

There is a book of rifle plans by Frank de Hass . It includes an easy to build .22 which uses a "sandwich" of steel plates. Can't remember the title but will post it later.

Thanks for the link, like I don't already have a lifetime of projects!

I think I already have those plans. Is it a simple falling block made mostly from Aluminum right? I'll check out your group page.

Thanks,
Matt

Nope there's solid steel rolling block for a 22 short and a couple break actions that unlatch in a couple different ways, and some muzzle loading rifles and pistols thrown in for good measure. No falling blocks though or aluminum.

Its been awhile since I've been on that page I see they added some new stuff................

Try this site . http://garagegunsmithing.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=54n I have built both of the Chicopees designed by Frank DeHaas as well as the HRD Falling Block shown in my avatar . The falling block is documented from beginning to end at Garagegunsmithing . There is also a few pictures and descriptions of it in an album on my personal page here. A couple of scratch builds are in progress over there too. One to watch is a bolt action 22 benchrest action by Scasa .

Awesome, I didn't think I would get this kind of response. I'll definitely be checking them all out.

Thanks,
Matt
