I am deep into my Euro Mauser stock work. The blank is very dense American Walnut that has been off the stump for 50 years and in my closet for 47 years.

Cut this wood at any angle you want and the tools do not skip, or jump The wood cuts clean and does not tear. Just like slicing butter.

The blank has some good fiddle back figure in the butt with good mineral streaking through butt and the grip. The fore end has dead straight grain. This wood is just about perfect for pretty, but stable rifle stock.

It has been a very long time, since I cut into a piece of wood this nice and easy to work.
