Stopped by the scrap yard today, roofing lead sheeting for $0.60 per pound (he has about 300 pounds) and ww's for $0.45 per pound (he has about 40 pounds)...good deals or not?

During the summer I was paying 30 to 40 cents for either ww's or sheet lead.

Scrap guys vary from area to area. Around here, those would be good prices.

The spot price of lead has been creeping up lately. Right now, it's around $1.07. Any usable material that you get for under a buck is actually good. For WW, I figure 75% good material. You do have a bunch of steel clips & non-lead WW to remove when you smelt a bucket of WW. You will never get 100% good material from them.

At $0.60 per pound , you should buy all you can.
I can sell lead to the scrap yard here near Ft. Worth for $0.60 per pound.

I give $25 a bucket for WW's but some times I get trash in the bucket that reduces the lead content. I figure that I am doing alright in the long run.

I paid $0.60 for lead pipe and sheets, $0.20 for WW here at the local junk dealer. I think I will get more WW this week from him.

The last I checked a few weeks ago the scrap yard here was paying 43 cents for wheel weights. I suppose it depends where you are. I would buy all I can at that price.

Yes, send me a PM and I'll sell you 99.9% pure lead for $2.50 lb. Buy a $100 worth and I'll pay shipping.

There we have it , the price of lead should never exceed $2.50 per pound because of the supply and demand principal.

Here in the mountains of Virginia I picked up 411 lbs of wheelweight last Friday for .25 cents a pound at the local scrap yard. They had a 5 gallon bucket of just scrap leap I could have gotten for the same price. I figured 411 lbs would last me 2 lifetimes. So I passed on the other.

Actually Rotometals has it pure lead for $2.09/lb. Free shipping. And they sent me a 15% off coupon last week.

I doubt that many serious boolit casters will pay $2.00 per pound for lead in the near future. The reason we reload and cast is mostly because we are cheap. Learning that you can make better ammo by hand is mostly secondary.

Should have bought it, smelted it into ingots and sold it on ebay for $1 per pound and doubled your investment .

The scrap yards around here are selling lead for 70 a lb.
I did however find a dealer close by that wanted 50 a lb.
And as luck would have it he had 1400 + lbs on hand.
I got 3 5 gal buckets ww and the rest was water pipe and sheet lead.
Couldn't afford to buy it all, but got what I could afford.

It seems that the local scrap yards around here won't even talk to you about selling lead. There is still one gun shop though that has a big stack of WW in ingots for .75/lb.

Why do you all buy pure lead? isnt it too soft? is WW lead too hard? I wouldnt hunt deer with hard bullets, but the harder the lead, the less there is stuck in the barrel.

Not true. It's ALL about boolit fitment.
I hunt with an alloy of 50/50 Wheelweights and pure lead.
I'm actually softening it to around 60/40 Lead/Wheelweights for the hollowpoints I'm casting now.

I consider myself lucky today,,,,,,I thought all the lead supply around here was spoken for. A guy I hardly know, heard I was casting and looking for lead. He showed up about an hour ago at my door with a 5 gal. pail of ww's,,,,said he sorted out the zinc and steel.
I asked what he wanted for it, ,,,reply was "nothing". I told him to hold on a sec while I ran down stairs. He smiled and said "that works" when I handed him 6 pack each of Mich and Sam Adams.
Would have given him more, but was all I had in the house.

Yeah, 2 six-packs for lead is a pretty good deal! Especially pre-sorted!

6 months ago the L.M.E. price for scrap Lead was 78¢ a lb
I knew copper has been going since then, as well as tin,
But I haven't watched Lead lately, and no one here has
mentioned it lately, so I figured it had not moved much.
BUT it has !!!
current L.M.E. prices per pound from http://www.metalprices.com/
Lead 1.1934
Tin 14.6941
Zinc 1.1242

Yep, Me too,
from Man.electric, a great deal, stuff looks real good.

Yesterday, I was negociating for a half barrel of wheel weights and battery terminals from an Auto scraper, He said he was going to call a metal recycler
and give me a call today about a price...That's why I looked up the LME.
Now I worried what kind of price he's gonna want...He might be keeping them.

Yep, he's easily going to want over $1 per lb. Time to hit ebay...
There aren't many wheel weights in the swappin&sellin page. However, I saw some isotope lead that has similar specs in the vendor sales section.

Hey, I got Lucky, he called me this morning and said 44¢ a lb.
I drove over there right away. He had them out of the barrel
and in 3 buckets. One bucket heaping full
his scale said 148 lbs...another one almost full weighed 136 lbs,
and a partial bucket weighed 60 lbs. I brought my own buckets
to transfer the lead and then i can see what's all in there.
All small to medium size "car" wheel weights, almost no stick ons,
NO battery terms, no valve stems, no trash, I liked that :)
the cash registor rang up $151.
plenty to pay, but with Lead prices going up...What ya gonna do ?
