I have the opportunity to purchase one of these used for $700 plus tax. I was curious if anyone had experience with this rifle or similar. The metal work looks pretty nice, but the cherry colored birch stock just makes it look cheap, imho. Otherwise a fine looking rifle. I've been wanting to get one for a light cast boolit shooter for a long time. I already have a No.1 in .357 mag so maybe this is duplication, I don't know. Opinions welcome.

I have the gun on hold until tomorrow, so what's the thoughts on the price?

Well, they have a $990 MSRP on the website, and you can usually assume that dealer price will be MSRP less 25% unless it's a model that's in very high demand or very rare (this would qualify as rare). They aren't exactly doing you a favor at $700, but then again, it might be hard to find another one of these.

Greetings
You can always offer a bit less... But I happen to like the 32-20. It is a great cartrige for popping groundhogs in the head or through the shoulders. If I had the opportunity to get a low wall with an excellent bore I do not think wood wood get in my way. There are all sorts of dark walnut stains out there that will take care of that reddish tint.

I really appreciate the feedback. It looks like the price isn't a great deal and as much as I'd like to try out the 32/20 I probably should wring out the .357 first. I'm thinking a lee 105 gr swc my dad loaned me over a bit of bullseye (3-3.5 gr) in a .357 case should produce similar ballistics to a light 32/20 load. Goal is a squirrel and plinking load.

If they balance and swing lick the original Winchester lowe wall they are a great walk around little rifle ,my 32-20 Winchester Lowe wall fits me like a fine English shotgun and I am about average hight, the 32-20 cartridge is a very handy caliber ,accurate cheap to re load

I don't have a Taylor's lowwall but I DO have 2 of their Lil Sharps. On in 45 Colt and the second in 38-55. Both excellent rifles that shoot way better than I can hold. Thinking about one of the sharps in 218 Bee now.

If the wood is stained birch then certainly it looks cheap , because it is cheap wood.

I am not sure why those imported Italian replicas have had such price increases. And then they cheapened up the wood on almost all of them.

I do like the 32-20 cartridge. But for $700 with a birch stock I am pretty sure I would pass. Below is a picture of my Low Wall in 45 Colt that I shopped around and found for $800. It may not be a 32-20, but that could be corrected if I really wanted to. For not much more. Tom.

Wow now that is a beautiful rifle! The more I think about it the more I'm sure that the wood on the Uberti qualifies as a crime against humanity. Like I said, the metalwork and case coloring is very nice. I like walnut for the rest of it though.

Offer them $600 because of the "junk" wood. Never know. Money is tight nowadays. Might be cheaper after Christmas, but also might not be there.

Ever think about your 357mag. reamed out to 357 Max?

Yes, I've read with some interest about the max here. Looks like it will give the 35 rem a run for its money. I'm going to try the mag first for sure though, mainly because I'm looking for something on the light side of the equation. Also the #1 I have is one of the overruns from the California Highway Patrol rifles and it did not get marked. So one of about 300 or so that didn't. I'm hesitant to alter it because it does have collector value.

I think the Max would be a blast in the contender pistol, but I already have a 35 rem so that would be redundant.

HEAD0001, I have that same rifle in 357 mag and love it. I have no plans to make it into a 357 Max, if I want more power I have both a 223 Rem and 260 Rem in lowwall to use.
