I went to a gun-show recently and was thrilled to get once fired 45-70 brass at $15.00 for 50 shells It was Black Hills brass. I have no experience with it but was told it is made by Winchester.

I am puzzled- where would large quantities of once fired 45-70 brass get generated. It's not like some police department or the military is shooting off thousands of rounds of the stuff.

Anyone else using BHA brass? Any comments good or bad?

Thanks,

Mark

Your saying $15 for 50 case's? Check the inside of each case they may have been fired with black powder or a sub. powder. and not cleaned properly after firing.

If they are clean then you go a good deal.

THEY ARE IMMACULATE! I was happy to get them. I wondered he same thing, about the black powder, that is but they are all nice and clean.

Maybe somebody with an original Gatling gun who doesn't reload produced a bunch of once-fired brass? Seeing how any stock of military surplus 45-70 is undoubtedly long gone, buying a production run of factory rounds would be the next best thing. Second thought is maybe they were a production run of blanks for a movie. Black powder blanks would probably make too much smoke for a movie, so a run of smokeless blanks would make some kind of sense. Then again, I could be wrong.

Just so everyone knows- it was a dealer that had the brass and they were talking (IIRC) 30k shells in sales. I asked them if they ever got feedback from their buyers and again, IIRC they said no-one had complained and they had sold 30k shells...

If it was Black Hills Ammo brass, it should have 2 stars around the primer. That's how Star Line bass is marked.

Star Line has its brass made to there spec by Remington. It is really good brass that has a thicker wall that will make it some what tough to size.

I have picked up BHA match brass in .223 and used it and found it to be good brass.

With my vision and iron sights on an AR couldn't tell you if it was better or worse than LC, WIN, or RPs
