    Repl O ring for Lyman size die? #35 - 9/16 x 1/16 x 1/16

OK, I'm properly ashamed for not knowing off the top of my head...

What size O ring do I need to replace the one I just buggered up tonight? I'd prefer to have a hard number than try to match it up out of the 1,287 plastic trays at the Home Depot.

    ETA the answer:

    9/16 x 11/16 x 1/16
    O ring size #35

Cool I sure would like to help but....

When I needed one for a die I made I just removed a good one and went to the local "Hardware Hank" and had them match it up. Then I bought a bunch of them!!!

Unfortunately, the Home Depot is my hardware store now. They have individual trays of individually plastic wraped rings. That makes them a pain to try and match to the one you are wearing on your thumb.

    Somebody has this info...

    Harbor Freight

Harbor Freight has these kits with a bazillion O rings, one of them is bound to fit. Buy the kit and have a low quality O ring in every size you may ever need.

Barring that, are you sure you need the O-ring? Does it leak without?

Yeah, it leaks with the ring at the spot I cut it in half.

I like having stuff like that O ring kit on the shelf. Well worth the money spent if it saves you once on a Sunday afternoon. But Harbor Freight's shipping on low buck stuff like that is too spendy. I'll have to wait till I get something else to order.

Gotta tell you, my faith in the board is shaken. I thought for sure one of the old heads would have posted the info by now...

Never crossed my mind... When you're thirsty, you go to the well! How was I to know the well was dry?

I guess I'm going to have to go answer this one for myself.

I make my own sizing dies for my Lyman sizer, and I learned long ago that the O-ring was unnecessary. I don't even machine the groove for it anymore, although I did for the first few. I'm a little surprised to hear that yours leaks without it, none of mine do. I don't know if this helps, but the diameter of the die in the portion where the O-ring lives is .723". I'd guess the groove for the O-ring is about .040 deep.

Do your Lyman sizers have the nut retainer or the older ones with the thumb screw that locks the die? If you have the old type without the retaining nut I don't believe you.

I remember reading a thread a while back where somebody contacted Lyman for a size and were told it was a "special" size. I don't think they will be much help.

Well mine has the set screw, and please believe me when I tell you, the O ring is required.

I have problem with leaking at the other end. As long as the sizer is empty, what size is on the threaded rod going through the reservior? Going to Home Depot tomorrow anyway.

Lyman sells the O-rings for $.25. You'll have to have one of the customer service people dig for the number as it's not readily listed last time I looked.

I have the number somewhere and if I find it, i'll post it./beagle
