Took the Ruger #1 in 45/70 out today and shot some loads over the chronograph. The boolit was in FP form, and tumble lubed with Bens liquid lube and sized to .460.
25 grains of 2400 went 1650 fps and is lights out accurate to 150 yards. Drop is a bit much though. I'm wanting a 200 yard elk whalloper.
30 grains of 2400 went 1820 fps. Load wasn't shot for accuracy, but 3 were fired at 200 yard target and drop was over 10 inches with a rough 100 yard zero.
The real surprise of the day was the heaviest load I tried. 60 grains of H335 gave 2150fps and ZERO leading or fouling. I will be loading some more of this load to see how accurate it is. It holds great promise as a 200 yard elk stomper. Heading to elk camp tomorrow for a week of archery hunting. Will resume load development when I get back.
I'll be a nice to you as you'll let me be, or as mean as you make me be.
Polite society started dying the day it was no longer necessary for rude men to physically defend themselves from the consquences of their actions or words.
I've used 52.0 grains of IMR 3031, Starline cases, Remington 9 1/2 Magnum primer with this boolit.
Accuracy was incredible at 100 yards.
No leading using 2500+ lube and sized to .4595".
Load works great in all my rifles (no trapdoor rifles).

I haven't chronographed this load yet, but I would estimate they're going 1800 - 1875 fps
Will be trying out a couple more loads tomorrow. Got some with 33 grains of 2400 and some with 57 grains of H335. Will report back on my findings. Shot today with 58-60 grains of H335. They had lots of pop but accuracy was only 3-4" at 100 yards for 3 shots. Rifle will do better than this.

Put some more lead downrange today. Learned a few things. 57 grains of H335 was still too much, as was 33 grains of 2400. I was still only getting 3-4" groups at 100 yards with them. Backed down to 30 grains of 2400 and found happiness. Getting 1820 fps and nice 1.5" groups.
With a 100 yard zero, I am able to use the point of my bottom vertical post in my reticle as my 200 yard aiming point. It puts me 2" high at 150 yards using this aiming point. Going out tomorrow morning to try to punch my last antelope tag for the year. Will have this rifle and load in hand when I do.

The 45/70 and hammer boolits (cast as a FP) made meat this morning. Hit a doe at 50 yards quartering away from me. Boolit entered just behind last rib ,blowing a 2 1/2" hole all the way through her, and exiting out the offside shoulder, breaking it. She managed a 3 legged run for 50 yards before tipping over. Blood trail was incredible. There were chunks of tissue and pools of blood everywhere she bounded. The toughness of the pronghorn just can't be overstated. You can shoot 50 of them in a row and drop every one of them in their tracks, and then when you find one that just doesn't want to give up, you'll be dumbfounded by how much physical punishment they can withstand and keep going.

Congratulations !
I'm going to try the penta hollow points on whitetail this fall.
CPL Lou
I have some HP loaded for whitetails and hogs as well. Been too busy with the 35 Rem and new MP mold and don't want to break the lucky streak yet. Congrats on the doe.
Hey guys,
This buy was recently ran again. Molds are arriving currently at their new homes. I cast about 50 last weekend and am looking forward to using this on deer in 45-70, 454 cassul and 45 colt.
It looks like several of you, Danwalker, CPL Lou and gtgeorge to name a few, potentially have some hunting stories from 2015 & 2016 using this bullet. Would you guys mind sharing some of those stories here or on the hunting with CB page?
Happy Casting and Hunting!
David
