Announcements I Wanted to Hear at the 2020 SHOT Show

Another SHOT show came and went, and hear are the announcements I wanted to hear, but probably never will:

    • Savage Reintroduces the Model 99 Lever Action
    • Remington's New 5mm Remington Magnum Rifle
    • Remington Brings Back the .30 AR in Its R-15
    • Ruger's New 77/256 Bolt Action in .256 Winchester Magnum
    • First Look at Springfield Armory's New Build M1 Garand
    • H&R Handi-Rifles Back in Production

Anyhow, I am sure many of you have your own list or would add to mine.

Rotary magazines are expensive to make - same reason we will never see the likes of my Mannlicher Schoenauer again...

Winchester doing limited release of EVERY caliber ever bearing the Winchester name! Yes, yes I know that they worry about older guns and pressures... But just one run??? 351? 35wcf? Pretty please?

I think CNC machining and investment casting would bring down what used to be the high costs before that was available. When I ran a HAAS milling machine center, it didn't care if it was interpolating a curve, a radius, a circle or drilling a hole. It all costed the same. If Ruger can (and they can and do) cast turbine blades, they could cast a rotary magazine follower, I am sure.

Also, gold inlays are expensive on guns, but people are still willing to pay for them.

It would be nice to see Mossberg or Savage make a left had bolt rifle that uses AR magazines . It would be a fun range toy for cast but neither one will listen to me .

    Jack

Edit to add , Come to think of it , it would be nice to see CZ or Steyr make a left hand .22 magnum .

I need Ruger to bring back the Red Label shotgun in 12, 20, and 28 gauge. Make the 16 and 410 for a follow on run.

Smith & Wesson to add the 10mm to its M&P line of poly wonders.

Remington XP100 in .300 Blackout with a 1-10" twist. Oh yeah, a pump action 45-70 based on the 20 gauge 870!

    Not likely.

Probably a better option (or an additional one) would be to make them in the discontinued Ruger lever actions, along with the 22 Hornet that someone else mentioned.
Oh, and lose the silly barrel band and put a better designed WALNUT stock on it.

I am afraid you are correct, but for the life of me, I cannot understand why they have chosen to stay with the leisurely 38" twist of the 44/40. If someone in the industry could enlighten us as to why they don't, please do so. I know Brian Pearce at Handloader and Rifle magazine, has repeatedly lobbied Marlin to make a 1:20" change but no luck yet. I would buy one right now if they would but somehow, I don't think Marlin/Remlin's profits are hinging on my purchases alone!

It would cost Marlin no more to produce a 1-20 twist barrel than the 1-38 twist barrel, I don't understand their bullheadedness either!

It's because SAAMI specified rifle and handgun twist rates. Member companies must comply.

    Most 44 magnum handguns have a 1-18 3/4" twist.
Why would a handgun be so drastically different from a rifle.
And why would a handgun have a .429-430 groove diameter and a rifle have a larger groove diameter?
