    12 ga. 2-3/4" Buckshot loads

I was thumbing through Lyman shotshell manual and found a heavy field load I used to use . 1-3/8 oz. , WW571 , AA 2-3/4"hull , WAA12R wad ,WW209 primer. I thought , hmmm, I wonder if ? I whipped up 5 cases , weighed 12-.311" ball cast of wheel wt. which weighed shy of the 1-3/8 oz. , stacked them in and got a beauty of a crimp ! I'll shoot them tomorrow an see how they fly !
For grins I looked for 571 powder to check price as mine is marked $9.39 Guess what , I cant find any !! I just have 1-1/2 # left Wonder what replaced it ?

After firing two of the five at 25yds they leave me unimpressed . Only 4 of the 12 hit the 16x24 inch hunk of cardboard ! Think Ill try backing off the charge 3-4 grains and add a couple cards under shot in cup to adjust height . Ill see what that does .

Use straight WW alloy, water quench, and include buffer. Things should improve considerably. Might want to also try using wads designed for steel shot.

    What choke did you us
I use either modified or full and it really improved the pattern. I load, on top of a dose of Longshot, a ballistic products GS2 gas seal, a felt wad, then teflon wrap, 12-00buck inside, then a thin cork and crimp. Really nice load.

If you asking about mine, it's a great load. I like having the larger payload going down range. I haven't put it through the chrono yet, just haven't had the chrono and the shotgun out at the same time.
Shooting at a berm at 100 yds it still has less than 10 foot spread. that's just eyeballing it-I didn't measure.

My next load to develop will be a 3" shell with 15 00Buck.

    I gotta ask...

how many fingers do you have on your hands that you can hold 12 30cal RB's AND then wrap 'em with the tape???

I was born with 8 fingers on my left hand and 1 thumb. The fingers all oppose each other, so I can really grip things.

No. You first prime then charge a 2-3/4" AA hull. I use 28.5g Longshot. Insert the GS2 gas seal and press it down on the powder.
Now, roll the teflon sleeve and insert it in the hull, it will naturally unroll and line the wall of the hull as you insert the rest of the components. Just make sure it is in there square.
Put in a felt wad (1/8"), cork or other material will work too since it is mainy for taking up space and I felt the need to put something there to make sure the heavy duty web of the GS2 didn't get buckshot wedged in there.
Now put in 3 each 00BUCK using a wooden dowel to pack them into a nice even layer. Do the same with 3 more layers. I put a thin cork (.060 thick) on top of this. Now crimp. Load. Fire.
