    Cannon Fuse.

I use the green waterproof cannon fuse from Hodgon for my cannon/Mortar.
It seems to be harder to find these days...

My local guy has some on his shelf, but it's probably not something I can just slip into an envelope with a stamp and send is it?

I've also seen fuse at the gun shows, both red and green IIRC.

Guy at our local sporting goods joint looked at me like i was nuts when i asked him where it was, they used to have percussion caps and fuse all locked in one shelf, now they carry neither. I stocked up on the green waterproof rope stuff over 4th of July for my beer can mortar which seems to be working perfectly and was only $5 for ten feet, which is far far cheaper than anything at the gunshow i have seen, they seem to think its gold.

I got some at the fireworks store in SC it was fairly cheap compared to the fuse at the gun shop. Forget what it was but I do remember I could buy three to four times as much for the same money. Now when someone I know is down that way I get a few packs of fuse.

I also bought cheap fuse at a fireworks shop here in Maine (now legal here)..... Made in China, seems to work OK. It's a bit fatter than what I was used to.

Unless you need waterproof, making fuse isn't difficult. Use a pissol and mortar to grind up black powder doused with rubbing alcohol. When it's a thick, smooth paste, work it into a length of cotton butchers twine--just make sure it's worked into the twist, not just coating the outside. Hang till dry, test burn rate, and off you go. It always worked great for my home-made rockets as a kid.

Now that is some redneck **** right there boys I LOVE IT thanks for posting that one bud. The shame is a lot of those things are lost with the just buy it mode we been in for the lasted 20 plus years. I miss the hog killings on cold mornings women making lye soap and just the make it your self way of life. As my boys were growing I tried to show them those things. I have stopped the truck and asked the elderly lady making lye soap in the back yard over a open fire did she mind me and my sons watching even helping her just so they could see how it was done. For one thing she was happy for the help and enjoyed sharing with us but I feel we left that day more blessed then she was for the help she got.

Imagine that? Is it even legal to make this stuff in America? And the communist Chinese can export it to here. Strange world we live in.

Is it really waterproof? Will it continue to burn if you submerge it completely underwater?
Home is where the RV is...

If you do not need waterproof then it is "easy and SAFE'

Dissolve sodium nitrate in water (fairly strong solution).

    Soak cotton twine/string in it.

    Hang up and let dry.

    Test for average burn rate.

I seem to remember that potassium nitrate will work also.

I found a supplier at Tulsa gun show for good cannon fuse, the green stuff.
Now I see ATF is trying to regulate certain "safety Fuse" as an explosive if it doesnt have certain UN numbers on it.

Yeah, I'll be sure and check with the UN before I ignite my golfball cannon 50 miles from the nearest stop-light to be sure the fuse is compliant....Joe
