What to use to clean baked on alox?

I have a Lee aluminum 6 cavity mold I have used quite a bit.
I was using bullet lube (bees wax/alox) for lubing the pivot points and pins and now I have a bunch of baked on stuff on the mold I want to clean off.

What do you recommend for getting that stuff off?
I have read that 2-stroke synthetic oil is what I should be using for a lube.
Any recommendations for lube also?

I would soak the mold in acitone or MEK over night and scrub with a tooth brush.get some of the 2 stroke oil it wont gum up like wax and alox.read in the stkies here it tells how to lube a mold with 2 stroke oil.Bullplate is the same

Mineral spirits makes a good thinner/solvent for Alox.

I would try a wipe down with a coarse cloth while its still hot. roll the cloth up in a roll and buff like polishing a shoe while its still hot from a casting session. A soak over night in hoppes shooters choice, acetone ot mineral spirits may loosen it also. Kroil oil may thin a loosen it. Have an old tooth brush handy for stubborn areas.

Yeah, don't do that. Soak over night in the solvent of your choice or try some goo gone. You might also cover it in Goop and let sit. Ever think of Engine Bright?

Good luck got some in my casting pot when recasting some tl bullets big mistake. Ended up sanding it out. If you find something that will take it out let us know.

I also say good luck removing that burnt on brown crud.

my story is just a longer version of Red Bear's...
I did a trade for a Lee six cavity mold that had baked on staining on the top of the mold blocks, I assume it was alox/beeswax lube...and nothing would take that burnt on brown crud off. Also, that mold had some galling and developed more, I removed the sprue plate and bolts, and used some fine sandpaper and plate glass to remove the galling...and guess what, the burnt on brown crud gummed up my sandpaper, the second sheet got coated with MS, and I was able to finish that job...and Brown crud is gone.

Baked on alox , beeswax or that black Frankford Arsenal Mould Prep. spray ,
Acetone and a tooth brush....it may take soaking and a couple scrubbings but the crud will come off .

Synthetic Two Stroke Oil , the kind for weed eaters , that's the ticket .
