    45-70 compression die

Where do I send someone looking for a compression die for their 45-70. I got mine back when Pat Wolfe still had reloading equipment.

    Thanks in advance

    Mark

Buffalo Arms sells them in various diameters.
Also you can use the Lyman M die, or the expander from RCBS legacy die sets for a compression die.
Long range rules, the rest drool.

I have converted the lee seaters to a compression die by filling the stem in and adding some length with jb weld in a pinch. This works pretty good and is easy to do. A new stem can also be turned up for use in the expander body of lees dies.
For the epoxy conversion of the seater. Pull the seater stem and clean with acetone several times and rough up the nose cavity with 80 grit sand paper. clean this again. Wrap with 4-5 layers more dosnt hurt any thing here leaving around 3/4" -1" added length from the end. Coat inside of tape with a wax several coats. Mix JB weld and fill the opening in the tape to the top of the tape and let cure at least 24 hours. clean up end with a file and sides to the original stem polish with sand paper and your ready to use.
A replacement stem can be turned from brass or steel to match the expander stem in the lee dies also, This works well and allows the die to do double duty. I turned mine to -.010 of case Id so there was a little clearance on the case.
Other wise Buffalo Arms, Trac of the wolf and I think dixe sell them or the conversion stems for certain die sets.

+1 to that. Using a Lee .45 compression plug in a powder through expander die for compression, works perfectly. About $16 for both.
